Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management, MZUNI Welcome to the official page of the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management (FoTHM) at Mzuzu University (Mzuni).

The Faculty offers six degree programmes through face to face and ODeL:
Bachelor of Business (Tourism Mgt)
Bachelor of Hospitality Mgt
Bachelor of Culinary Arts
BA (Culture & Heritage Tourism)
BA (Sports Mgt)
Master of Tourism and Hospitality Management The FoTHM is motivated by the need to support our industry and academia through training, research and community engagement in Malawi and the region. Through our state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities at the Dunduzu Campus, which comprises modern lecture rooms, training laboratories and an application hotel for hands-on industry experience, we are geared to positively impact the industry in Malawi and beyond through training and sharing of knowledge. We have a team of highly motivated staff trained in top institutions across the world and experienced in different sectors of the industry. We have also partnered with important industry players to facilitate industry placements and research activities for our staff and students. Today, the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management, MZUNI celebrates Dr. Zandivuta Kankhuni, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Tourism and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the North-West University, South Africa.

This week, he has been attending the Consumer Behaviour Tourism Symposium (CBTS) at the FH Westkuste University of Applied Sciences in Heide, Germany. Today, Dr. Kankhuni and Professor Elmarie Slabbert presented the results of their ongoing research on branding in African destinations.

The Faculty of Happiness is today crushing on Anthony James Magalasi who pursued a Bachelor of Science (Tourism) degree and graduated in January 2026.

After graduating, Anthony joined Platinum Travel and Tours as a Procurement Officer before moving to Sigma Court Apartments and Events Garden in Area 25, Lilongwe where he works as a Marketing Manager .

"I enjoy my role because it allows me to network, meet new people, build relationships, and develop creativity, hard work, and strategic thinking. Working at Sigma Court is a privilege, as the company director trusts my abilities, values my ideas, and gives me challenging opportunities that contribute to my personal and professional growth," he told us.

He also said that his training in tourism courses which focuses on business management prepared him well for different roles in the tourism industry.

Anthony has this advice to all students in the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management, MZUNI "Be faithful to God and He will always be faithful to you too. Focus on acquiring practical skills, not just passing exams because the industry requires you to apply what you know, not simply carry notes in your head," he said.

The Faculty of Happiness wishes Anthony all the best in his job and his career.

The Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management, MZUNI Tourism Incubation Centre is today 27th August 2026 holding a day long training on climate change and resilience for tourism and hospitality businesses in the southern region.

The training is taking place at Mkango Lodge at Kameza where 22 participants are in attendance.

The guest of honour was Mr Gift Mwale, a Senior Tourism officer from the Department of Tourism in the Ministry of Industrialisation, Business, Trade and Tourism.

A guest business expert was Ms Violet Mughogho from Adventures with Colby.

The trainings are organised courtesy of GiZ which was represented by Mr Geoffrey Mhango from Gopa AFC.

The Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management, MZUNI Tourism Incubation Centre on Tuesday August 2026 held a day long training on climate change and resilience for tourism and hospitality businesses in the central region.

The training was held at The Mzuzu University Lilongwe ODeL Centre in Kanengo where 20 participants from across the central region attended.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the guest of honour Ms Angella Chilale who is the Regional Tourism Office (C) commended the training as a core component of the tourism product development as stipulated by the Malawi Tourism Development Master plan.

" We need more operators mainly locals to be exposed to these training sessions so that together we can develop products and services that will keep tourists engaged when they visit our attractions/destination," she said

Ms Chilale hailed Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) for funding the training sessions through the More Income and Employment in Rural Areas (MIERA 3) whose focus on climate change and adaptation resonates with the many challenges affecting many micro, small and medium sized enterprises in Malawi. She observed that the development of climate resilient tourism products and excellent service could attract more tourists to Malawi beyond the current arrivals pegged 1 million annually.

In his remarks, Dumisani Matundu, Gopa AFC Senior Advisor on Agriculture sector urged the participants to focus much on the training so that they can use the knowledge gained to better their businesses.

He urged the participants to foster networks from among the trainees saying " networks are your business networth".

The next training will be held in Blantyre this Thursday.
