MILE was honoured to contribute to global policy discourse at the Global Leadership Summit 2026, hosted by MAI Foundation from 24 to 26 June.

Our Director of Training and Development, Mr. Alexander Geneva Tembo, joined the panel for Workshop Session 14: Youth in Policy and Governance, Making Our Voices Count, alongside youth leaders and civic actors from Argentina, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, India, Italy, and beyond.

Alexander brought MILE's grounding in Malawi into a wider conversation on what genuine youth participation in governance requires: not symbolic inclusion, but real access to policy influence.

When more than 68 percent of a nation's population is youth, their voices are not optional. They are indispensable to shaping effective and responsive economic policy. Their aspirations, experiences, and perspectives must inform the decisions that define the country's future.

On 30 May 2026, MILE convened the inaugural Youth Economic Dialogue Series in Mzimba under the theme "Unlocking Barriers to Youth Economic Prosperity"

The event brought together a diverse group of participants including students, aspiring entrepreneurs, innovators, youth leaders, and mid-career professionals to examine the barriers constraining meaningful youth participation in Malawi's economy.

The dialogue created a dynamic platform for candid and constructive exchange. Participants illuminated the realities young people face, highlighting persistent challenges in entrepreneurship, employment, skills development, and access to opportunities. These obstacles continue to limit the ability of Malawi's youth to fully contribute to economic growth, innovation, and national development.

This engagement marked a pivotal step toward ensuring that young people are not merely beneficiaries of policy but co-architects of the solutions that shape it. MILE remains steadfast in its mission to elevate youth voices and foster inclusive, evidence-driven dialogue on the economic issues most critical to Malawi's future.

We were honoured by the presence of Mr. Edward Shafi, District Labour Officer at Mmbelwa District Council, who represented the Guest of Honour Mr. Mr. Yamikani Nyalugwe, the District Youth Officer. His engagement and valuable contribution added significant weight to the dialogue.

We extend our deepest appreciation to all the youth and youth clubs across Mzimba District, whose contributions enriched the discussions, and to the Malawi Council for the Handicapped, whose support ensured the inclusion and meaningful participation of young people with disabilities.

Finally, we express our sincere gratitude to our partner, the Institute of Economic Affairs, through the Whetstone Freedom Fund, for making this landmark engagement possible.

MILE was honoured to participate in the NGO Regulatory Authority - NGORA Sensitisation Meeting on the Mandatory Partnership Framework between Local and International NGOs, held in Mzuzu on 4 June 2026.

The meeting brought together civil society leaders from across the Northern Region to engage in a timely and important discussion on strengthening collaboration within the NGO sector and advancing a regulatory environment that promotes transparency, accountability, and sustainable development impact. MILE's Chief Executive Officer, John Nyangulu, was among the invited participants, reflecting the organisation's growing contribution to policy dialogue and civil society development in Malawi.

We are sincerely grateful to the NGO Regulatory Authority - NGORA for the recognition, confidence, and trust extended to MILE through this invitation. We deeply value the opportunity to contribute to conversations that shape the future of Malawi's NGO sector and reaffirm our commitment to constructive engagement with regulatory institutions and fellow civil society actors.

MILE Executive Team was honored to be among 100 NGO leaders invited to participate in the Governance Training for Local NGO Boards held in Mzuzu from 10–11 March 2026.

Organized by the NGO Regulatory Authority - NGORA in partnership with Tilitonse Foundation the training focused on strengthening board effectiveness, organizational governance, risk management, and ethical leadership.

Representing MILE were our Founder and CEO, Mr. John Nyangulu and two of our esteemed Board Members, Mr. Aaron Luhanga and Mr. Mzondi Moyo, demonstrating our commitment to aligning executive leadership with strong board oversight and global best practices.
