𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧 (44 𝘚𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘊𝘛𝘌𝘋)

At Hillside Secondary School, we take immense pride in the academic achievements of our students.

Every year, we witness the dedication and perseverance of our learners as they strive to secure placements in Malawi’s top universities and colleges. Today, we are thrilled to officially announce the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁, recognizing the outstanding students who have secured spots in prestigious institutions across the country.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀

This year’s intake includes students admitted to renowned institutions such as 𝗟𝗨𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗥, 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗔, 𝗠𝗭𝗨𝗡𝗜, 𝗠𝗨𝗕𝗔𝗦, 𝗞𝗨𝗛𝗘𝗦, 𝗡𝗥𝗖, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗜. They will be pursuing degrees in fields critical to Malawi’s growth, including 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The casual day, 04/10/2025, had alot to showcase. We managed to take a few pictures of these young lads, expressing what they wish to become in the near future.

THE VALUE OF EDUCATION
Girl child please listen. In 2015 when I was working for Times 360 Malawi Times Group I produced a story about a young girl-Zinenani Kakowa-who had passed her MSCE with 8 points and was selected to pursue an MBBS degree (to become a medical doctor for surgery) at the College of Medicine in Blantyre.

Unfortunately the girl was coming from a very poor background and her parents had given up on her dream to pursue further studies. We visited her village in the area of Beula village, T/A Kapichi in Thyolo. Our cameras captured the ambience of poverty from the home that the girl with such sharp brains was coming from.

Stories were narrated how the community relentlessly tried to influence the girl to abandon school and get married as her colleagues had done. We spoke to her former teachers, her parents and relatives capturing testimonies of Zinenani's unwavering spirit towards education.

Fortunately when we published the story, a few people of good will that included some professional women groups responded to assist the girl fulfil her ambition to become a medical doctor.

Today I am proud to narrate this story of resilience and success from a girl that defied all odds including abject poverty to rub shoulders with children from the upper class.Over the past eight years she overcame a barrage of academic pressures to reach the very end of her MBBS studies. At this moment (Dr) Zinenani Kakowa is doing her medical practicals in one of the countries biggest referral hospitals having accomplished her goals.

The picture that I posed with her in 2015 and the rest of the new pictures that shows her current status depicts the two worlds that she has experienced. You and I can only imagine what this girl would have been today if she didn't follow her heart. I have always shared this story with my own children and other people close to me as it motivates me alot.

As schools reopen today, my advice to girls and even boys is that; never back down. Do not look at your current challenges as a barrier rather use it as a stepping stone for success. Education is an equaliser between the rich and the poor. If you take that route and pursue it vigorously, one day it will pay off. Once again salute to (Dr) Zinenani Kakowa for the testimony you have given all of us. The transformation is for all of us to see.

Hillside wishes to congratulate its candidates who sat for 2024 JCE exms for making it and for passing with colorful grades.

Statistically, 113 candidates registered and sat for JCE at Hillside, 98 have passed. This represents a pass rate of 87%.

Congratulations young lads, for a better tommorow is in the making.

Registration for 2024-25 academic year is in progress for all classes.

We would like to inform all parents and guardians that report cards(school reports) are ready for collection.

The office will be open from 9 in the morning up to mid day from Monday to Friday this.

From next week, the office will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Hillside commenced it's 2024 MANEB exams on tuesday(02/07/2024) very well. It has a candidature of 218. It wishes the best to all the candidates as they carry the flag to the furthest of the world with the continuation of main papers from today (9/07/2024).
