📚 EXAMINATION ORIENTATION FOR WEEKEND STUDENTS

DMI St. John the Baptist University, Lilongwe Campus conducted an Examination Orientation for Weekend Students on 4th July 2026.

The session focused on examination rules, academic procedures, and important guidelines to help students prepare for a smooth and successful End Semester Examination period. Students were reminded of key requirements, including possession of Hall Tickets, collection of invoices, and full payment of tuition fees before sitting for examinations.

🌍 Empowering Young Innovators for a Sustainable Future

DMI St. John the Baptist University successfully hosted the Innovation, Science, Technology, ICT, Climate and Environmental Conservation Forum on 25th June 2026 under the inspiring theme:

"Empowering Young Innovators for a Sustainable Future."

The forum was organized by the DMI Environmental Club in collaboration with the DMI ICT Club, under the supervision of the DMI Student Union President, Wonderful Thomson. The event brought together approximately 29 participants, including students, club members, representatives from Kethu Group, and Tiyen Environmental Green Alliance (TEGA).

A key highlight of the event was an inspiring presentation by Mr. Innocent Mandili, Founder and CEO of MI Technologies, who shared his remarkable journey as a global innovator. He encouraged students to embrace innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship as powerful tools for addressing community and environmental challenges.

Members of both the DMI Environmental Club and DMI ICT Club also showcased their innovative projects, demonstrating outstanding creativity, talent, and commitment to sustainable development. Impressed by the quality of the presentations, Mr. Mandili pledged to support outstanding innovations by connecting them with relevant authorities and stakeholders for further development and possible implementation.

The forum provided an excellent platform for learning, networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing, inspiring students to become future leaders in innovation, technology, climate action, and environmental conservation.

The leadership of both clubs extends its sincere appreciation to the Dean of Students and the Campus Management for their continued support in creating opportunities that empower students to develop their skills, nurture their talents, and build valuable professional networks.

The Social Work Department recently participated in a stakeholder meeting organized by the Social Workers Association of Malawi in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender. The meeting aimed to contribute to the development of localized national competencies, role definitions, and a Code of Ethics for social workers in Malawi.

Participants reviewed the existing ethical principles and professional standards guiding social work practice in the country. Discussions focused on ensuring that the proposed Code of Ethics reflects Malawi’s social, cultural, and professional realities while remaining aligned with international social work standards.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for a comprehensive review of social work curricula offered by various universities across Malawi. Representatives presented their programs, highlighting areas of convergence and divergence. The review sought to identify core competencies and learning outcomes that can be standardized across institutions to ensure the consistent preparation of competent and professional social workers.

The engagement was highly productive and marks an important step toward strengthening social work education and practice in Malawi through nationally relevant competencies, clearly defined professional roles, and robust ethical guidelines.

In an effort to broaden access to the e-resources available on the MALICO/MyLoft platform for research, teaching, and learning, the Librarian from DMI Lilongwe Campus conducted a library staff training session in Mangochi on 1st June 2026.

Librarians from DMI Mangochi and Blantyre campuses were equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to train students and staff at their respective campuses. The training covered the creation of user accounts, management of user categories, database navigation, and various information search techniques.

This initiative reflects DMI's continued commitment to enhancing access to quality academic resources and strengthening research capacity across its campuses.

EXAMINATION ORIENTATION FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

On 8th June 2026, the Office of the Dean of Students conducted an Examination Orientation for all first-year students across various academic programmes.

The orientation formed part of the University's commitment to promoting academic excellence, integrity, and professionalism by equipping students with a clear understanding of examination regulations and expectations. The initiative was also aimed at reducing cases of examination malpractice and misconduct.

During the session, students were given an opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on examination procedures, enabling them to gain deeper insight and confidence as they prepare for their assessments.

The students expressed their appreciation for the informative session and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the examination rules, demonstrating honesty, responsibility, and integrity throughout their academic journey.

The 2026 Chancellor's Trophy 🏆

On 6th June 2026, DMI–St. John the Baptist University hosted the exciting Chancellor's Trophy in Mangochi, bringing together students from the Lilongwe, Blantyre, and Mangochi campuses in a spirit of sportsmanship and unity.

The tournament featured a variety of sporting disciplines, including Football, Netball, Basketball, Volleyball, Athletics, and Chess.

The Lilongwe Campus delivered an impressive performance throughout the competition, securing second place in Football, Netball, and Volleyball, finishing just behind the host campus, Mangochi.

Lilongwe also celebrated outstanding individual achievements by claiming first place in Ladies' Chess, Men's 400 metres, and Shot Put.

These remarkable accomplishments reflect the dedication, discipline, and talent of our students. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all participants for representing the Lilongwe Campus with pride, determination, and excellence.

The Social Work Department recently organized a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Talk for female students and lecturers in commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day. The initiative aimed to promote awareness, education, and open dialogue on menstrual health and hygiene among women and girls.

The session was facilitated by Nurse Hilda Kamera, who delivered insightful and practical guidance on menstrual hygiene management, personal care during menstruation, and the importance of maintaining good reproductive health. She also addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation, encouraging participants to seek accurate information and professional support when needed.

The interactive nature of the session created a safe and supportive space for participants to ask questions and share experiences. Overall, the talk reinforced the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation and empowering women and girls to manage their menstrual health with confidence and dignity.
