I once again, thank you. Director of Solojour Alfredino Tembo organization.
Malawi is one of the ten countries most vulnerable to disasters worldwide and the most cyclone-exposed country in Africa. Malawi is facing and emergency level crisis. Two years of consecutive droughts have left families in the country helpless and unstable to feed themselves. People have been pushed to desperate survival measures including eating " famine food" - defined as food that is readily available at times of hunger-such as locusts, raw red cactus fruits or wild leaves .
So far, 517 children in our community need emergency food and nutrition assistance.
Thanks for a state of alertness in the standing position.
I once again, thank you.
But despite the need of nutrition and care, many children in Malawi face challenges as their parents or guardians do have the opportunity or adequate knowledge and skills to develop positive and responsive parenting skills. During the first 1,000 days of life, which are crucial to child development. Malawian children often experience poor health care, inadequate nutrition, little early stimulation and learning, and the absence of protective environment. The challenges increase when children are also affect by HIV/AIDS and humanitarian disasters. Negative social norms, cultural beliefs, gender socialization and power dynamics at the household and community level have also hindered the requisition of knowledge and skills and adoption of improve positive and responsive parenting practices and behaviors over time.
Early marriages and adolescent pregnancies in Malawi increase gender inqualities and expose many newborns and infants to multiple risks, including stunting.
Therefore, you can get involved, you can make a difference.
I thank you.
