EXPLORING A MEANINGFUL START: MANAGING PROJECT DELAYS

There is a saying that "all that glitters is not gold", this saying has greatly impacted our project in such a way that we took off on a rosy start hoping to also finish that way. Our community raised the community contribution way ahead of time and everyone was hoping for a smooth trajectory in our guardian shelter project. But alot the way things got a little bit twisted when the project had used all the in kind contribution that the community had raised. At this moment, we already purchased all the materials needed for the project and we reached a point of no return. After the we had used up the in kind contribution there was need for the community through their village heads to come together and make a consensus about the issue. We summoned them to a community meeting where they agreed to do so since on our part as the committee we had already tighten up our boots geared for the smooth completion of our project. We faced a week dalay for this activity to be completed. Secondly, we also had anticipated that our contractor was fast as lightening that our construction will be completed in a stated agreement that we had with him. He also delayed our works to the point that we had to terminate his contract and put in another person who would complete our project in a given time. Since my site is new people have not fully understood the concept of community led development although i had previously employed the idea in them so that we can walk together torwads redefining development. At this moment the shelter has been roofed and we have started some finishings such as plastering and other hygiene utilities have commenced. It is there in this light that, not any strong start will project a powerful ending, in any project we must expect delays and figure out ways in which these delays can be managed. Delays are often frustrating and pulls one's spirit down, this frustration comes from a rosy start
