Today, the Catholic Church in Malawi commemorated its 125th Anniversary at Nzama Parish, marking a significant milestone in the history and mission of the Church in the country.

As part of the celebrations, the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) proudly handed over a newly constructed classroom block to St. Mary’s (Nzama) Primary School, reaffirming the University’s commitment to supporting quality education and contributing to the development of communities.

Constructed at a cost of MK180 million, the new block comprises four classrooms, providing a more conducive learning environment for pupils at the school.

The initiative reflects the shared commitment of the Catholic Church and CUNIMA to promoting quality, accessible and holistic education as a foundation for empowering individuals and transforming communities across Malawi.

For four years running, Ephraim Malichi Zulu has continued to make his mark at Providence Girls Catholic Secondary School, delivering outstanding results in Bible Knowledge.

Following his impressive performance in the previous year, Zulu’s dedication and commitment to teaching have once again translated into remarkable results. As one of the pioneer members of staff, Mrs. Olive Nampanda is undoubtedly one of the strong pillars of the University. Over the years, she has witnessed almost every cohort of students pass through the Faculty of Education, making her a familiar and cherished figure to generations of students.

Her years of service have earned her a special place in the hearts of many. Whenever she meets her students around the University, she shares that warm, proud and unmistakably motherly love that reflects the lasting bonds she builds with them.

One principle that many will remember her for is simple: “Be a hard worker, and you become my friend!” But if you are lazy, well… you might not like her very much! 😄
