Climate Data Management System Specifications
๐ Whatโs new in the 2025 Climate Data Management System (CDMS) Specifications?
Big changes are here. The 2025 update reimagines how we manage climate data to make it more reliable, easier to share, and ready for the future.
Here are the key updates:
๐ Wider focus โ CDMS now covers more than just storing data. It includes how data is used, shared, and protectedโall guided by strong rules.
๐งฑ New and updated tools โ Some parts have been added or changed. What used to be optional may now be required, especially to ensure quality and trust.
๐ Data history is a must โ We now need to clearly show where data comes from. This helps others trust the information and use it with confidence.
๐ Follow global standards โ The system now works better with other tools and organizations by aligning with international standards.
๐ Always improving โ This is a "living document" that will keep evolving as new tech and policies develop.
๐ Why it matters โ These changes help countries manage climate data betterโfor science, for planning, and for people.

WMO coordination of weather, climate and water services is central to global safety, security and development.
In this new bulletin, WMO Secretary-General Prof Celeste Saulo writes how our core mandate - collecting, analyzing and sharing vital weather, climate and water data worldwide - underpins national and regional safety and development.
But as climate risks intensify, WMO faces growing challenges in securing predictable, flexible, and sustainable funding.
In 2025, as WMO celebrates 75 years as a UN specialized agency, we call for both public and private sector engagement.
