Final day of our 3 day workshop training a new group of volunteer Peer Educators. What a workshop it was. This group of secondary school students sooo keen to learn how to assist learners struggling in their local primary school. Lots of participation and questions answered by the teachers who volunteer as Patrons to supervise the Homework Centres. 73 new Peer Educators ready to assist the over 200 learners from 5 primary schools in rural Chileka. Enjoy the pics.

Just want to let all our friends know that we are having a Graduation Ceremony next Fri 23rd August for our 5th cohort of students in Professional Cookery and Tailoring. The celebration includes performances from current and graduating students and speeches from an alumni now in full time employment and a current graduating student as well as the owner of a major hotel in Blantyre that has employed awarded another of our past graduates. We will post pics and a video for you to enjoy. Due to devaluation in the kwacha since our last Grad ceremony prices have skyrocketed to Aud$1,700. We do provide presents to all the 25 Graduating students as well as a lunch for approximately 150 students, family and other guests. We have received donations from several friends of Mwayi but are a little short. So if any of our friends reading this are able to assist in anyway please contact me. Thank you. A couple of pics from last year's graduation ceremony to pique your interest.

Just an update on the house we built for the 3 children with no parents. Finally got to do a handover last Sunday. The road to get there was really terrible in parts but got there safely. The Village Headman lead the ceremony and was very happy that we had decided to help these children. The kids are soo young and being looked after by a not much older relative. They now have somewhere safe to live. Very happy to assist this family. # # #

Just want to share another positive story with you. Sharon who only just completed her 1yr course in Professional Cookery in December last year is now a permanent employee at La Caverna Cafe. I met her today and talked with her bosses to learn that they are very happy with both her professionalism and work ethic. Saying that she is a quick learner and prepared to do whatever is asked of her. Congratulations Sharon. # # #

Hi everyone just want to brag a bit and show you some pictures of one of our Professional Cookery graduates Hudson Pax Mame who graduated from Mwayi Trust Vocational College early 2019. After graduating he secured a job as a Chef at Rafiki Safari Lodge working there successfully for a couple of years. Due to covid he needed to find other employment which he did at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre. He has been working so successfully there that on several occassions he approached Mwayi to send other graduates and even current students to assist in the kitchen during large conferences. He works in the breakfast team and last year he received two awards.
One in August for Employee of the Month and the other in December for Best Breakfast Chef of the Year. Also as a sign of success he was asked to appear on MBC television to demonstrate how to make a Full English Breakfast. Congratulations Hudson we are very proud of you for your skills, initiative and your professionalism.
Enjoy.

Hi everyone am posting these pictures of a house of a child headed family of 3 kids. Both parents deceased. This house they have been living in was damaged by Cyclone Freddy last year. We received donations from Road to Relief in Malawi friends in Aus and my mum. Am soo grateful. And we have built a new home for them 2 bedrooms, a sitting room with a kitchen and soon a toilet. We forget how lucky we are sometimes don't we. Video of new home coming next.

This msg sent by Loma Burger a new friend of Mwayi Trust.
I was so privileged to visit Mwayi Trust today.
It is a small NGO Institution outside Blantyre, Malawi, who believes all students have potential and deserve a chance to succeed.
They offer courses in Professional Cookery, Housekeeping and Tailoring.
I saw a beautiful institution where instructors, students and ground staff are all proud to be a part of.
Mwayi Trust is also very involved in the community around them where they strive to enhance the lives of the youth.
Watch this space, as this will definitely not be my last post about this lovely place.
Sandra, thank you for inviting me and I am looking forward to 2024 🤩

Mwayi Trust completed its first Housekeeping course specifically designed for those young women and men who did not complete their schooling. It was a 3 month course and included both essential cleaning skills and food preparation/ breakfast cooking. Six young females and one male student successfully completed the course. We had a lovely graduation ceremony to present them with certificates and a lunch prepared by our Prof Cookery students. We are organising for them to do some work experience in Mijn Kitchen a local lodge/cafe. These students were lucky to receive free tuition as a friend of Mwayi - Lillian Wellings has sponsored this and one more course. Enjoy the pics.

So luv this.
A fisherman spotted her just east of the Faralon Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her…. a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.
They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.
The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.
May you be so fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you.
And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude 🙏

Hi everyone College has started Term 3 the final term and just this week our Prof Cookery students received a bonus. Ben the nephew of Jim our favourite volunteer agreed to take a day out of his holiday to come and teach our students how to make Mushroom Risotto. And they loved the experience. I had to go to 3 shops to find the right rice to use but it was worth the effort as the results were really yummy. Also the students learned a new dish. We even used local rice to see if it would work and it did. A huge thank you to Ben and amazingly he has agreed to come again next week and teach them another dish maybe Beef Ragu. Enjoy the pics. # # #
