Few days ago, we witnessed five public universities come together in a powerful display of innovation, collaboration, and resilience at the ICTAM National Student Hackathon 2026 held at the TFM Centre of Excellence in Blantyre.
This was not just a competition, it was a demonstration of what is possible when talent is given the right platform.
From ideation to ex*****on, the level of creativity and problem-solving showcased by the students was exceptional. These young innovators are not only ready to participate in the digital economy, they are ready to shape it.
Congratulations to Malawi University Of Science and Technology for emerging as the winners of this year’s hackathon. Your achievement reflects excellence, teamwork and the ability to translate ideas into impactful solutions.
We were honoured to have Mr. William Mpinganjira, CEO of FDH Financial Holdings, as our Guest of Honour and Chief Judge. His presence reinforced the importance of strong leadership, industry alignment and the role of innovation in driving economic transformation.
As ICT Association of Malawi - ICTAM, this initiative reflects a deliberate strategy, to bridge the gap between academia and industry, to nurture innovation and to build a pipeline of skilled, forward-thinking ICT professionals.
The future we speak about is already here. Our responsibility is to scale it, support it and ensure it delivers real impact.
My sincere appreciation to all participating universities, mentors, judges, and our partners, Nico Technologies and UNDP , for making this a success.
Malawi’s innovation ecosystem is rising and this is only the beginning.

I had the honour of representing Malawi’s ICT professionals at the Conference in Livingstone, Zambia a week ago—an engagement that provided both strategic insight and practical direction for advancing our digital economy. A key message from President Hakainde Hichilema was clear: ICT is not just a sector, but the foundation of economic transformation. From AI-driven resource discovery to digital government and a 24-hour economy, Zambia is demonstrating how technology can drive productivity, inclusion and national growth.
Equally compelling was the address by ICT Association of Zambia President Dr. Clement Sinyangwe, who highlighted the importance of a strong regulatory framework in building a credible and trusted ICT ecosystem. Zambia’s approach, ensuring certified professionals, enforcing ethical standards and aligning ICT development with national priorities, reinforces the direction we are taking in Malawi as we advance the ICTAM Bill to regulate the profession and uphold standards.
For ICT Association of Malawi - ICTAM, this experience strengthens our focus on three priorities: accelerating the ICTAM Bill to formalize regulation and professionalism; fostering strategic partnerships across Africa to drive innovation, skills development, and policy alignment; and strengthening our Secretariat and governance structures to improve institutional effectiveness and service delivery to members.
Beyond the conference, I held strategic side meetings with fellow ICT association leaders from Zambia, Uganda, Ghana, South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe to explore collaboration and partnership opportunities. These engagements mark the beginning of a stronger regional alliance and we are confident that the outcomes of this trip will yield tangible benefits for Malawi’s ICT sector and contribute to a more connected and digitally empowered Africa.

“Kuyenda ndi Kuvina” — a visit to the other Chilobwe
Yesterday, I visited Chilobwe in Ntcheu —
a quiet place,
where at the top of a humble hill,
springs never sleep.
Water flows day and night,
24/7/365,
feeding irrigation channels,
sustaining farmers,
nurturing families,
turning sweat into abundance
and hope into harvest.
Standing there,
watching life rise from that hill,
my mind travelled home…
To the famous Chilobwe of Blantyre(COB)
My home.
My roots.
My rhythm.
That Chilobwe never sleeps.
Its streets breathe day and night.
Its people love deeply —
so deeply that even in heaven,
Chilobwe would surely have its own gathering place.(Tizikaipatsa Moto)
Chilobwe has the best managed footbal team in Malawi Chilobwe United Football Club
“Pa Centre”, the heartbeat of business,
with legendary shops that open 24/7,
and yes…
We have a shop with lowest prices in Africa. Don't ask me how that is possible in this economy or don’t argue.
If you’re not from Chilobwe, just listen and agree... 😄
Chilobwe has given Malawi:
great footballers,
world-class artists,
skilled professionals,
and unstoppable hustlers.
You name it — we produce it.
Just like Chilobwe in Ntcheu,
Chilobwe in Blantyre never rests.
One supplies water.
The other supplies dreams.
One feeds crops.
The other feeds ambition.
Different dimensions, same spirit.
Two Chilobwe
One heartbeat
One philosophy.
Kuyenda ndi Kuvina.
Always moving.
Always giving.
Always dancing.
Honestly…
these two Chilobwes need to sign a dual entente. 🤝
Because greatness clearly runs in the name.

Honoured to have served as a panellist at the Data Privacy Week 2026 Conference, organised by Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority - MACRA under the theme “Privacy by Design”
During my presentation, I shared a simple story from my childhood that reflects how we must approach data protection today.
Growing up, many of our parents in the civil service built their homes slowly, over many years, according to their income. We lived in unfinished houses — some rooms had no doors, no ceilings, no final touches.
But one room was always complete.
Our parents’ bedroom.
It had proper doors.
It had locks.
It had privacy.
Why?
Because that is where important matters were discussed.
That is where valuables were kept.
That is where dignity was protected.
That room was designed with protection in mind — even before the rest of the house was finished.
That is exactly what Privacy by Design means in our digital systems today.
As Malawi accelerates digital transformation, driven by the Malawi Data Protection Act 2024, we must ensure that:
✔ Sensitive data is protected first
✔ Systems are secured from design stage
✔ Access is controlled
✔ Risks are managed early
✔ Trust is built intentionally
Privacy is not something we add later.
It is something we design first.
I am grateful to MACRA under the Leadership of Maya Nkoloma for the opportunity to contribute to this important national conversation on embedding privacy into digital platforms
Let us continue building digital systems that protect dignity, inspire confidence, and strengthen trust.

We find ourselves in the final month of the year 2023, prompting a moment of reflection on the journey of the past year.
What have been our victories?
What have we encountered as setbacks?
Have there been notable transformations in our lives?
In what ways could we have improved?
What actions can we take in these remaining days of the year to enrich our lives?
Allocate some time away from your daily routine for a thorough reflection. Honesty with oneself during this process is key, and it will undoubtedly lead to personal growth.
A commitment to a better year is reserved for those who take the time to prepare for it.

ALEKENI ANENE!!!(LET THEM TALK!!!)
Many of us today are depressed because we are caught up worrying about what others might say about the current challenges of our lives. Just remember, people will always be people. They'll always find something to gist about us in all seasons. They'll gist until they ease their own troubled hearts.
Honestly, those who enjoy gisting others are often the ones who are hurting the most.
So, keep your head up and focus on your own journey! God is good😇 and you will be fine.
Apikene? (Do you hear me)?
