The Ministry of education has suspended physical classes in all learning institutions for two days as a precautionary measure in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Freddy.

A statement signed by Principal Secretary for Education, Chikondano M***a, announces that classes will be suspended in Nsanje, Chikwawa, Mulanje, Phalombe, Blantyre, Thyolo, Chiradzulu, Mwanza, Neno and Zomba districts.

The decision comes after the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services warned of direct effects of the tropical storm in the southern region.

PRESS RELEASE: 2022/23 ACADEMIC CALENDAR

2022/23 ACADEMIC CALENDAR
The Ministry of Education would like to inform the general public that the 2022/23 Academic Year for primary, secondary, and teacher training colleges will commence on 10th October, 2022, and will end on 21st July 2023, constituting Thirty Nine (39) teaching and learning weeks as follows:

a) The first term will open on 10th October, 2022 and will close on 16th December 2022, followed by a Two (2) weeks holiday.

b) The Second term will open on 3rd January, 2023 and will close on 31st March, 2023 followed by a Two (2) weeks holiday.

c) The third term will open on 17th April, 2023, and will close on the 21st July, 2023 followed by a seven (7) weeks holiday

The general public is therefore being reminded that the school calendar has been harmonised for all primary, secondary, and teacher training colleges, both public and private. Institutions in these categories are therefore not allowed to operate outside this calendar
