KUHeS Bachelor of Occupational Therapy Programme Earns Global Accreditation

The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) programme at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) has been internationally accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), marking a major milestone for occupational therapy education and professional training in Malawi.

The accreditation confirms that the KUHeS BOT programme meets globally recognised standards for occupational therapy education and prepares graduates to provide high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based care.

It also places the programme among internationally recognised training institutions that are contributing to the advancement of rehabilitation services and inclusive healthcare.

WFOT is the global professional body representing occupational therapists worldwide. The federation establishes international education standards, promotes excellence in occupational therapy research and practice, and supports the development of the profession across countries.

The BOT honours programme was approved by the KUHeS Senate in April 2022 and admitted its first cohort of students in February 2024. The inaugural class consisted of 20 students, and the programme has since grown to a total enrolment of 40 students across two cohorts.
