Roles of a Teacher on Duty

A teacher on duty is responsible for helping maintain order, safety,discipline,and smooth running of the school during the assigned duty period.

1. Supervise learners – Monitor learners during arrival, break time,lunch,and dismissal.
2. Maintain discipline – Ensure learners follow school rules and address minor disciplinary issues appropriately.
3. Ensure safety – Watch for hazards, bullying,accidents,or unsafe behaviour and report serious incidents.
4. Monitor punctuality – Check that learners and teachers are reporting to school and lessons on time.
5. Supervise school grounds – Check classrooms, playgrounds,corridors,toilets,and other areas.
6. Handle emergencies – Respond appropriately to accidents,illness,conflicts, or other emergencies and inform the relevant authorities.
7. Record incidents – Document important incidents, accidents,visitors,or other matters that occur during duty.
8. Monitor cleanliness – Ensure the school environment is clean and learners dispose of waste properly.
9. Coordinate assemblies – Help organise morning assemblies,announcements,prayers,and other school activities.
10. Receive visitors – Direct visitors appropriately and ensure they follow school procedures.
11. Support other teachers – Assist colleagues where necessary to ensure the school operates smoothly.
12. Report to administration – Give the headteacher or administrator a clear report about important events during the duty period.
13. Promote good behaviour – Encourage respect, responsibility,cooperation,and good manners among learners.
14. Check school property – Monitor the proper use and safety of school facilities and equipment.

In short:The teacher on duty acts as the school’s eyes and ears,helping to ensure that learners are safe,disciplined, supervised,and that the school day runs smoothly.
