Yesterday, we added another record to our First Aid and Fire Safety training journey, training employees at Njuli Farms in Blantyre.

Working in a macadamia farming environment comes with a range of potential hazards, including agricultural machinery and equipment, sharp tools, slips and falls, manual handling injuries, exposure to pesticides and agrochemicals, heat and weather-related risks, fires, and injuries during harvesting and processing activities.

This is why First Aid and Fire Safety training is not just a requirement, it is a critical workplace preparedness measure. Employees need to know how to respond quickly to injuries, medical emergencies and fires before professional emergency services arrive. The right knowledge, combined with the right response, can prevent a minor incident from becoming a major tragedy.

We are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of First Aid and Fire Safety Training for employees of Fairtrade Africa.

The training equipped participants with essential knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively to emergencies before professional emergency services arrive. From first aid response to fire prevention and firefighting, employees explored critical areas that can make a difference when seconds matter.

At Fairtrade Africa, whose work supports fairer trading conditions and sustainable livelihoods for farmers and workers across Africa, having employees who understand emergency preparedness is an important part of creating a safer and more resilient workplace.

Training employees is not simply about compliance. It is about building the competence and confidence to act when an emergency occurs. An employee who knows what to do can help protect lives, prevent an incident from escalating, and support an organised emergency response.

𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙧 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨, 𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨

Yesterday, SEHAS Institute proudly collaborated with Plem Construction Limited to conduct a Workplace HIV Awareness Campaign at their construction site along the Area 49 Road in Lilongwe.

The campaign reached both construction employees and members of the surrounding communities, providing vital education on what HIV is, how it is transmitted, how it can be prevented, and the importance of knowing one's HIV status through regular testing.

Construction workers are among the groups that can be more vulnerable to HIV due to the nature of their work. Their mobility, extended periods away from home, changing work locations, and demanding schedules can increase exposure to risky situations if awareness and preventive measures are not consistently promoted. By bringing HIV education directly to the workplace, we help equip workers with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions that protect themselves, their families, and their communities.

Let's continue breaking the stigma, promoting regular HIV testing, practicing effective prevention, and supporting one another. Together, we can create workplaces and communities that are informed, healthy, and free from discrimination.

Yesterday, SEHAS Institute proudly partnered with CR-20 to deliver a Workplace HIV Awareness Campaign across Nkhotakota and Salima districts, reaching over 600 employees.

The campaign was conducted at First Rajab and Kasamba camp sites in Nkhotakota, and Nanjoka camp site in Salima. During the sessions, workers were engaged in open discussions about HIV and AIDS, with a special focus on the unique risks and challenges faced by mobile workers in the construction industry.

In addition to the awareness sessions, the campaign provided: Free HIV testing, Professional counselling services, and condom distribution

We believe that informed and healthy workers are essential for safer and more productive workplaces. We extend our sincere appreciation to CR-20 for the partnership and to everyone who participated in making this initiative a success.

Together, we can end HIV-related stigma, promote regular testing, and build healthier workplaces and communities.

Yesterday, we successfully conducted our online orientation for our new students who will officially commence classes tomorrow, 13th July.

We thank everyone who participated and demonstrated their commitment to learning and professional growth. We are excited to be part of your academic journey and look forward to equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and practical competencies needed to build a safer and healthier Malawi. Together, we will develop a skilled workforce that embraces occupational health and safety across all industries.
