The Malawi Public Universities Students' Union conducted a successful tree planting at Michiru Mountain in Blantyre.

The team led by the MAPUSU President Mr. Gershom Nyirenda together with SRC leaders from KUHES and MUBAS and students from various public universities have planted trees at a site that will now be called "Students Grove" within Michiru Forest.
MAPUSU is committed to promoting environmental sustainability and ensuring greener Malawi for future generations.

Students have a role to play in protecting the environment.

The Malawi Public Universities Students' Union is committed in making positive impact on our environment,in the view of sustainability and responsibility, we are excited to invite students from public universities to the tree planting exercise that will occur on 22 March 2025.
Location: Michiru Mountain (Blantyre)
Time: 8am-11am

Together we can combat deforestation,protect our climate and contribute to healthier environment as students.Your participation will make difference.

The Malawi Public Universities Students' Union President Mr. Gershom Nyirenda , held a fruitful engagement today with MZUNI SRC Executives led by their President Mr. Malekano at MZUNI Campus.
The discussion boarded at sustainable solutions to addressing students' issues and strategic initiatives to assist students in the universities.
MAPUSU is dedicated to support all students in public universities by collaborating with all respective Students Representative Councils.

We are extremely excited with the news that upkeep allowance has been reviewed with an increase of 60%.

We are happy by HEs directive to the HESLGB, ministry of education, ministry of finance and all other stakeholders to review upkeep allowance given to public university students.

A gesture that our efforts and requests as MAPUSU are being recognized by the first citizen in his capacity as the Chancellor. This was among the reason we met him at the State House.

We will keenly be following up on the rest of the suggestion which include construction of hostels, classrooms, introduction of the Chancellors trophy among others.

We are also happy for duty exemption on hostel construction materials for investors and other players to invest in construction of hostels under Public Private Partnership (PPP). This development was announced by the Minister of Finance in Parliament during the 2024/25 budget statement presentation

These are gestures that higher education is changing for the better.
