Happy National Engineers’ Day 2026! 🇲🇻

On the occasion of National Engineers’ Day, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Villa College proudly celebrates our engineers, our graduates, our current students, our academics, and everyone contributing to building a stronger and more sustainable Maldives.

At Villa College, we believe that engineering education is not only about earning a qualification. It is about creating opportunities, solving real problems, developing innovative ideas, and preparing the next generation of engineers for the needs of our nation.

We are proud to provide students in the Maldives with opportunities to pursue engineering education locally in areas including Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Civil Engineering, while continuing to strengthen pathways towards internationally benchmarked and professionally recognised engineering education.

Our students are encouraged to go beyond the classroom — through hands-on laboratory learning, industry and site exposure, final-year and capstone projects, research, international conference presentations, publications, innovation competitions, incubation and entrepreneurship, and engagement with industry and government.

Most importantly, we are proud of the innovative engineering solutions emerging from our students — solutions that respond to the real challenges and needs of the Maldives, from sustainability and energy to infrastructure, automation, marine environments and emerging technologies.

Today, we are especially proud of our engineering graduates who are already contributing their knowledge and skills across the Maldives and beyond, and of our current students who are working towards becoming the engineers, researchers and innovators of tomorrow.

To our students, alumni, academics, industry partners and every engineer contributing to the development of our nation — Happy National Engineers’ Day!

Industrial Visit – Learning Beyond the Classroom

On 10th February, our National Certificate 3 Marine Mechanic Program students of Centre for Foundation Studies, Villa College students stepped into a world where mechanical precision meets life-saving responsibility.

We had the privilege of visiting the Fire & Rescue Services Department at Maldives Airports Company Limited at Velana International Airport, and what an eye-opening experience it was. The students immersed themselves in high-stakes emergency operations and advanced mechanical rescue systems that closely mirror the safety and maintenance standards required in the marine industry.

🚒 What They Experienced:

• Large-scale evacuation coordination in a high-security airport environment
• Hands-on operation of hydraulic cutters (Jaws of Life) — understanding pressure systems and rigorous maintenance requirements
• Technical exposure to Aviation Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles, including foam induction systems and turret operations
• High-flow pump house systems for rapid vehicle replenishment
• Wearing full PPE suits and operating SCBA cylinders — understanding the physical and ergonomic demands of emergency response
• Command Center surveillance and rapid dispatch systems
• Warehouse logistics and climate-controlled storage of medical rescue equipment

The students witnessed firsthand how mechanical systems, when maintained with precision and discipline, directly save lives.

This visit reinforces something we always tell our students:
⚙️ Maintenance is not just technical work. It is responsibility. It is safety. It is trust.

🌍 Linking to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

This industrial exposure contributes meaningfully to:

🔹 SDG 4 – Quality Education: Providing hands-on, industry-aligned experiential learning.
🔹 SDG 8 – Decent Work & Economic Growth: Preparing students with practical competencies for high-skill technical careers.
🔹 SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure: Strengthening understanding of critical infrastructure and emergency response technologies.
🔹 SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities & Communities: Enhancing safety systems that protect lives in major transport hubs.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Maldives Airports Company Limited Fire & Rescue team for their hospitality and knowledge sharing.

Special thanks to Mr. Fazleen and Mr. Jazlaan for their expert instruction, and heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Ahmed Nasir (Alumni of the Mechatronics Engineering Programme) for facilitating this invaluable opportunity.

Guided by Assistant Professor of Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dr. Lokesh Singh, this session truly demonstrated the power of experiential learning in shaping competent, safety-conscious future marine professionals.

Moments like this transform students.
From learners → to future professionals. 💙
