Villa College's Faculty of Shariah and Law, in partnership with the Villa College Law Society, has completed a landmark research initiative commissioned by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, examining cybersecurity, data protection, and digital governance in the Maldives.

Led by five Law Society members and guided by faculty advisors, the research draws on global frameworks from the EU GDPR to the Budapest Convention and governance models from Estonia to Mauritius, delivering tailored, actionable recommendations for a secure, trustworthy, and rights-respecting digital future for the country.

In an era where digital infrastructure is advancing faster than the legal systems designed to govern it, this is the kind of research that shapes national policy. We are proud that our students are not simply studying the law but actively contributing to its development.

Hard copies of the published report are now available for collection at the People's Majlis, with an e-copy to follow on the WFD portal.

Villa College's Law Society and the Faculty of Shariah and Law, is hosting a guest lecture on the recognition and enforcement of international commercial arbitral awards. The session examines the frameworks that govern how arbitral decisions hold force across borders, including the foundational role of the New York Convention. Dr. Dashaco Nelson of the University of Dschang, Cameroon, leads the discussion, bringing international depth to a subject at the heart of global trade and dispute resolution. For our students, this is a distinctive opportunity to engage with the evolving practice of alternative dispute resolution and its significance in a connected economy.

The lecture takes place on 28th March 2026, from 12:00 to 14:00 at the Moot Court, 6th Floor, AA Tower 2, Villa College. This session is open exclusively to Villa College students.
