It was founded in 1996 and was later renamed after Sir Abdool Raman Osman, the first Governor General of Mauritius in late 1996. Sir Abdool Raman Osman State College is a boys' college which was founded in 1996. It is situated in the district of Plaines Wilhems, more precisely in the urban area of Closel, Vacoas/Phoenix. It is owned by the government, controlled and operated through a rector and a

deputy rector. The staff members are accountable to the ministry of education which in turn has delegated its powers to regional directorates.
