𝐌𝐚𝐧 𝐮𝐩. 𝐁𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠. 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐲.

We have all heard these words. But what happens when these expectations become barriers to seeking help?

As part of the Health and Wellbeing in Social and Cultural Context module, our Nursing and Psychology students engaged in a powerful conversation on men’s health, masculinity, mental health and stigma.

With insights from guest speakers Amanda Sadien and Jeevesh Augnoo, students were challenged to look beyond the stereotypes and question how society’s expectations of masculinity can shape the way men express emotions, understand vulnerability and access healthcare and mental-health support.

Because telling men to “be strong” should never mean telling them to suffer in silence.

Maybe it’s time we changed the conversation.

Meet Vaishnavi Poran Gooljar - Senior Application Development Analyst, Accenture Mauritius

Vaishnavi’s three years at Curtin Mauritius as a BCom Information Technology and Systems student were more than an academic journey — they were a transformative experience that shaped her personal growth and laid the foundation for her professional career in Data & Analytics.

From friendships, group projects and extracurricular activities to memorable campus moments, her Curtin Mauritius experience was filled with opportunities to learn, connect and grow. Her achievements, including the Best Student Trophy and multiple appearances on the Vice-Chancellor’s List, were made even more meaningful by seeing the pride and happiness of her parents on graduation day.

Her advice to current students is simple: look beyond academics. Build practical skills, network, get involved, step outside your comfort zone and make the most

The Curtin Mauritius Rotaract Club’s first meeting was a wonderful opportunity to explore Rotary’s goals and the values that guide our students’ journey as Rotaractors.

We warmly welcomed our new members into the world of Rotaract and gave them an insight into what it means to be part of this global movement. The session was also filled with energy and fun, with an engaging Kahoot quiz bringing everyone together!

It was a great way to begin this new chapter - connecting, learning and building together with a shared vision of creating meaningful impact in the Rotaract community.

A heartfelt thank you to our guest speaker, Stephane Augustin, Founder of SA Strategic Intelligence , for delivering an engaging and insightful lecture to our Curtin BSc Information Technology students as part of their Engineering Management unit.

The session explored how team personality, willpower and psychological safety can significantly influence the success and quality of a project’s final deliverable. When team members feel heard, respected and supported, they are more willing to contribute, challenge assumptions and collaborate openly. This not only strengthens relationships within the team but also encourages better problem-solving, innovation and decision-making throughout the project.

Stephane also highlighted the importance of effective leadership in building trust, setting a clear direction and ensuring that every team member feels valued. Strong leaders do more than manage tasks, they create the conditions in which people can communicate honestly, take ownership and work together towards a shared goal.

Thank you, Stephane, for sharing your valuable experience and helping our students understand that successful engineering projects depend not only on technical knowledge, but also on trust, empathy, resilience and responsible leadership.

The Curtin Mauritius Law Club was pleased to organise an insightful and engaging panel discussion on “Sexual Harassment in the Workplace.”

We had the privilege of welcoming our panellists: Me Carolyn Desvaux de Marigny, Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission - Mrs Augustin, Chief Inspector, Crime Prevention Unit, Mauritius Police Force and Representatives of the Ministry of Labour

The discussion explored the legal framework governing workplace sexual harassment, employers' responsibilities, the protections, and reporting avenues available to employees, and the importance of education and prevention. It also addressed the growing relevance of cyberbullying, sextortion, and online sexual harassment, including the preservation of digital evidence and the reporting of incidents occurring through digital platforms.

Our panellists shared valuable knowledge, practical guidance and perspectives drawn from their respective areas of expertise. The interaction between the panellists and the audience made the discussion particularly meaningful allowing an open and informative exchange on the challenges faced by victims, the importance of appropriate institutional responses and the collective responsibility to promote respectful workplaces.

We extend our thanks to our panellists for generously sharing their time and expertise. We also thank everyone who attended, asked questions, and contributed to the event's success.

Conversations such as these are essential to raising awareness, challenging harmful behaviour, and ensuring that individuals understand their rights and the support available to them.

Together, we can continue working towards safer, more respectful and inclusive workplaces for everyone.

Meet Larissa Emilien, a rising professional - ''I graduated in November 2024 with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance and was honoured to be included on the Vice-Chancellor’s List. I am currently working as an auditor at PwC Mauritius. I chose a career in auditing because it offers the opportunity to work with a wide range of businesses across different industries. What I enjoy most is the variety and challenge that each engagement brings. Every client and assignment is unique, allowing me to continuously expand my knowledge, strengthen my skills, and grow professionally.

During my time at university, I was an active member of both the Student Ambassador Club and the Finance Club. Some of my fondest memories were made during orientation week, when I helped new students settle in and become familiar with university life. Since graduating, one of my proudest personal achievements has been maintaining my commitment to continuous learning and professional development, particularly by balancing full-time work with my ACCA studies.

The advice I would give my younger self is to be patient, trust the process, and remember that good things take time. Most importantly, celebrate the small victories along the way, as they are an essential part of every meaningful journey.''
