In 1959, an education institution known as Misbahul Uloom was founded by Marhouma Khala Habiba Dastageer Rajah with the objective of offering islamic teachings to children of the community of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill. In 1964, the Anwaar-e-Islam Masjid was established and in parallel the education institution was rebranded as Anwaar-e-Islam Madrassa. Both institutions are administered by a board of c
ompetent individuals, who are all members of the Ashiq-e-Rassool Ahle Sounat Wa Jamaat Brotherhood, which is registered as a socio-cultural association in Mauritius since 30 April 1965. Over the years, different personalities have served as office bearers of the association. In 2010, with the growing number of students joining the Anwaar-e-Islam Madrassah, adjoining land and building was acquired with a view to increase the student recruitment capacity. In 2013, the parking area opposite the existing premises was also purchased to embark on a new building project. As at 2014, the Madrassah has over 200 students enrolled for the part time classes offered in the afternoon on weekdays and in the morning on Saturdays.
