University of Mauritius Welcome to the Official page of the University of Mauritius UoM was founded in 1965 with an essentially national perspective.

The University of Mauritius (UoM) is sited at Reduit, a small town in the heart of Mauritius. At first, the university had three schools, namely Agriculture, Administration and Industrial Technology. With time it has expanded to comprise five Faculties, namely Agriculture, Engineering, Law and Management, Science, and Social Studies & Humanities. To enhance its traditional face to face mode of tea

ching the university is making use of Innovative Learning Technologies like distance education and online learning. Over the years, UoM has evolved into being the number one University of the land, focusing on research and consultancy and the development of undergraduate and postgraduate programme of studies to meet the requirements of the Mauritian economy. The programmes offered by the university are internationally recognised and include quality assurance mechanisms such as the external examiner system and links with renowned Universities worldwide. The student population is around 10 000, with some 55 international students mostly coming from Botswana, Comoro, France, Germany, India, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Many international students choose the University of Mauritius to spend a semester abroad. At UoM collaborating with international universities is fundamental to providing excellent teaching and research. UoM has relationships with universities across the globe, from France to Australia, Malaysia to South Africa. These relationships enable UoM undergraduates to study abroad, graduate students to benefit from global peers and mentors, and lecturers to engage with students and colleagues around the world in teaching/advising relationships and collaborative research projects. The Students’ Union was established in 1971. It is run by and for the students. It offers a wide range of activities. All students are members, the membership fee being included in the registration. Students are very dynamic in organising extra-curricular activities supported by the Public Relations Office. Facts and Figures:

University of Mauritius Promotes Student Wellness through Ayurveda Awareness and Walk

The University of Mauritius held a Student Sensitization Workshop and Ayurveda Walk on 3 September 2026, under the Know Ayurveda Campaign of the Ayush Information Cell, High Commission of India, Mauritius, as part of the activities leading up to Ayurveda Day 2026.

Organised in collaboration with the Cancer Association of Mauritius (CANMA), VIT Mauritius and Abhyas Institute of Universal Awareness, the programme brought together students to explore Ayurveda, healthy living, cancer prevention awareness and mental well-being.

Dr Pooja Sabharwal, Ayurveda Chair at the UoM, highlighted the relevance of Ayurveda to preventive health and introduced interdisciplinary opportunities in education, research and entrepreneurship for students across medicine, agriculture, food sciences, biotechnology, engineering, law and social sciences. Contributions from the collaborating organisations further enriched the programme.

The Ayurveda Walk encouraged physical activity and collective participation, reinforcing the importance of everyday choices in supporting health and well-being.

The initiative benefited from the support of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University staff and Students’ Union.

Sincere appreciation is extended to all partners and participating students for their contribution to the event.

RRU delegation at the University of Mauritius - Wednesday 02 Sept 2026 🇲🇺🤝🇮🇳

A delegation from Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, paid a courtesy call at the University of Mauritius (UoM) during its visit to Mauritius.

The delegation was led by Prof. (Dr.) Kalpesh H. Vandra, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Rashtriya Raksha University, and comprised of Dr. Chandresh Parekha, Director (Academic & Research), SITAICS; Dr. Jatin Patel, Director (Project & Training), SITAICS; and Ms. Hinal Shah, Administrative Officer, RRU.

The delegation was received by the Chancellor of the UoM and the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, along with senior officials of the University.

The RRU delegation is in Mauritius from 30 August to 6 September 2026 to conduct a Capacity-Building Training Programme on Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for officials of the Mauritius Police, following an invitation from the Government of Mauritius.

The courtesy call provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on matters of mutual interest and on avenues for strengthening institutional collaboration between RRU and UoM, particularly in the areas of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, research, innovation, capacity building and knowledge exchange.

During the interaction, both institutions expressed their interest in exploring opportunities for closer academic and professional cooperation, including potential collaboration in emerging and strategically important areas. The engagement also underscored the importance of leveraging the expertise and capabilities of higher education and specialised institutions in Mauritius and India to support skills development, research and innovation.

The University of Mauritius welcomed the RRU delegation and expressed its appreciation for the University's engagement with Mauritius. The visit was also viewed as an opportunity to further strengthen the longstanding and friendly relations between Mauritius and India, while fostering meaningful institutional partnerships in areas of shared interest.

The courtesy call marks a positive step towards exploring future avenues of collaboration between Rashtriya Raksha University and the University of Mauritius, with a view to promoting knowledge sharing, capacity building and joint initiatives in emerging fields of strategic importance.

🎓✨ UoM Graduation Ceremonies 2026 - Session 4 - 27 August 2026 ! 🎉

The University of Mauritius Graduation Ceremonies 2026 continued on Thursday 27 August 2026 with another memorable session held at the POWA.

Approximately 170 graduates from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), the Faculty of Science (FoS), and the SSR Medical College proudly celebrated the successful completion of their academic journeys, yesterday morning. 🎉👏

The ceremony was honoured by the presence of Dr the Hon. Kaviraj Sharma SUKON, Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, who graced the occasion as Guest Speaker.

As our graduates step into the next chapter of their lives, we celebrated not only their academic accomplishments, but also the determination, resilience and hard work that have brought them to this proud milestone.
