Port Louis Toastmasters Club, the very first club in Mauritius, is strongly anchored on the four pillars of the Toastmasters credo. Founded in July 2000, the Port Louis Toastmasters Club is the first Toastmasters club established in Mauritius. As part of Toastmasters International, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to developing public speaking and leadership skills, the club has played a pioneering role in nurturing confident communicators and effective leaders on the island. The club provides a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth. Port Louis Toastmasters Club offers a dynamic, learn-by-doing environment where members progress through structured educational paths in communication and leadership. The club has earned accolades such as the President’s Distinguished Club award, reflecting its commitment to excellence. The vision of Port Louis Toastmasters Club for the 2025-2026 mandate is “Find Your Voice – Ignite Change” meaning “Be the change that cultivates confident communicators, resilient leaders and a community where every voice matters”. The club meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 18:00 to 20:00 at Le Marina Garden, Caudan Port Louis. Meetings are open to all individuals aged 18 and above. An evening of learning, leadership and positive vibes at Port Louis Toastmasters! 🎤🌟

Our Toastmaster of the Evening (TME), Deepak Maunthrooa, brought a fresh look to the session, introducing innovative elements while staying true to the core principles of a Toastmasters meeting. This created a lighter and more engaging flow throughout the evening.

🗣️ Table Topics brought spontaneity and energy, with President Vanessa, Toastmasters Soraj, Manisha, Kelvin and Mujahid, along with distinguished guests including Aurora Toastmasters Club President Nawsheen Baichoo, taking up the challenge of speaking impromptu and sharing their thoughts on the spot. 👏

🎤 Deepak Ramsurrun. delivered a thought-provoking speech exploring how our mindset and behaviour, when driving, can make a difference on the road.

🔄 The Round Robin evaluation added a special dimension to the session. In addition to the three members who evaluated the speakers (among Kovilen Vencatachellum), other members and guests present were also given the opportunity to share their feedback and perspectives. This brought different viewpoints and richer insights to the evaluation, making it an even more valuable learning experience.

🎉 The evening also began with the installation of our new Secretary, Preetee Jogessur-Rughoonauth, marking another positive milestone for the club.

A Session Full of Energy & Engagement

Another vibrant Toastmasters session this week packed with learning, participation and great moments! 🎤✨

From the nomination of our new Secretary Preetee Jogessur-Rughoonauth and inspiring speeches, to lively Table Topics and an engaging interactive session, everyone had an opportunity to participate, learn and grow.

A great reminder that Toastmasters is not just about speaking - it’s about confidence, leadership, interaction and building each other up.

We are all looking forward to another exciting Port Louis Toastmasters Club meeting this evening at 6pm. On the agenda: three great speeches and the celebrated Table Topics, amongst others.

Examples:

Another great evening of sharing, learning, speaking and growth. We had the opportunity to welcome three Ice-breaker speeches on that evening, three new members on their maiden speech, ready to go and ready to learn along the journey.

Our meeting also had a great Table topics session, which allowed us to discover some of our members who are quick, very quick, thinking on their feet, when faced with a question requiring an immediate answer over 2 minutes... Short enough to be kind about the unpreparedness of it, long enough to allow the member to showcase his/her mental ability to think quickly and string a coherent and flowing response to the question.

Overall a great members' meeting and we look open to welcome more members in our midst.

Photo Highlights – Annual Dinner 2026 & Induction Ceremony ✨

Our Annual Dinner 2026 & Induction Ceremony was a wonderful celebration of fellowship, leadership and achievement.

We were honoured to have the event graced by the presence of Mr Craig Halbmaier, Chargé d'Affaires a.i., U.S. Embassy of Mauritius and Seychelles, Mrs Mila Devi Sewruttun-Dosieh, Director of the Mauritius Institute of Education, and Hannah Toofanee, DTM, Division Director of District 114.

Congratulations to our newly inducted Executive Committee for the 2026–2027 Toastmasters year. We look forward to their leadership and the positive contributions they will make as they continue to build on our club's proud legacy.

The evening also provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our members. We proudly recognised our Educational Award recipients for their commitment to personal growth and excellence throughout the year. A special congratulations to our Immediate Past President, Chitra Beekoo-Koonja, on being presented with the Soizick Le Saout Award.

A heartfelt thank you to all our members, distinguished guests, fellow Toastmasters, family and friends who joined us on this 10th July at our Annual Dinner & Induction Ceremony 2026, at Rooftop Ebene.
