Candidates in the Express Entry pool with strong French proficiency were targeted.
Anyone with a CRS score of 419 or higher and meeting the French-language criteria had a chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
This cut-off is significantly lower than general draws, which often exceed 500 — meaning French speakers have a major advantage.

Express Entry: Category-based selection 2026
Good day,
This notification is to inform you that the 2026 Express Entry categories have been announced. Learn more about the categories and find out who is eligible on IRCC’s website.
This year, our Express Entry categories are as follows:
French-language proficiency
Healthcare and social services occupations
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEPM) occupations
Trade occupations
Education occupations
Transport occupations
Physicians with Canadian work experience
Senior managers with Canadian work experience
Researchers with Canadian work experience
Please Note: Express Entry categories will now require a minimum of 1 year of work experience, in an eligible occupation to qualify for selection, compared to six months in previous years. Some of the eligible occupations for existing categories have changed and may impact your eligibility for category-based rounds of invitation.
Ensure that your Express Entry profile is kept up-to-date so that you have the best possible chance of being selected to apply for permanent residence in upcoming Express Entry invitation rounds.
