Mauritius: Tomorrow the Hindu Community here celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi is a vibrant Hindu festival celebrating Lord Ganesha—the deity of wisdom, new beginnings, and remover of obstacles.
The Story: Created by Goddess Parvati, Ganesha unknowingly blocked Lord Shiva at the door. During the ensuing clash, Shiva severed Ganesha's head, but remorsefully replaced it with an elephant's head, blessing him to be worshipped before any auspicious undertaking.
The Ritual (Visarjan): At the end of the festival, clay murtis are carried in procession and immersed in the sea or rivers. This symbolizes the return of the physical form to nature's elements, reminding us that everything eventually returns to its source.
If you see hundreds of Ganesha murtis heading toward the water in Mauritius, it’s a centuries-old tradition of faith, community, and the eternal cycle of creation and return—not an emergency!
