I have received a few messages lately about tips to include kids in the kitchen with us.
Here are a few things you can keep in mind when your little one wants to participate.
Cooking with them is an amazing way to teach them about the importance of a healthy diet, discover new ingredients, textures, tastes and smells.
It might feel overwhelming at first but the more you do it, the more you’ll find ways to make it easier for you both. 💪🏼
The best part of it ? They are SO SO proud at the end of the meal and actually want to try everything because THEY MADE IT !
Hope this helps !

A great little snack idea for school ! The frosting is optional but adds the extra little fun of a cupcake with being the sweet cream topping.
The cake has no sugar as the addition of cranberries with bananas brings enough sweetness.
Ingredients
🔸 200g self raising flour
🔸 120g butter melted
🔸 1 pot Greek style yogurt unsweetened
🔸 2 big bananas, mashed
🔸 3 eggs
🔸 cranberries (as much as you like !)
🔸 1 teaspoon cinnamon
🔸 1 teaspoon baking powder
🌻 Step 1 : in a big bowl put the flour, cinnamon and baking powdered together.
🌻 Step 2 : in a separate jug, mix the eggs, yogurt, butter together.
🌻 Step 3: pour the egg mixture into the big mixing bowl with flour and mix until well combined.
🌻 Step 4 : add in the mashed banana, mix well. Fold kn the cranberries in the batter using a spatula.
🌻 Step 5 : pour into your muffin mould and bake for 25min, until cooked properly on the middle.
Once the muffins are cooled down, you can spread the White Choc Peanut Butter on top for extra flavors !!

If you don’t have time to make dinner at home, you shouldn’t have to comprise and offer something that wouldn’t be nutritious.

I have mentioned flaxseed a few times in recipes and previous stories and received questions on how to use it, so we can start with this.
I love adding flaxseed occasionally to the girls food as it is rich in omega3 fatty acid (so is foods like fish, eggs or walnuts or kidney beans by the way) which helps build the immune system and improve brain function and development. It is also a great source of protein and fiber, which are necessary for healthy digestion. The fibers will help prevent constipation.
I don’t overuse it as it can have a laxative effect if it is used in big quantities but once of twice a week in small quantity (1/2 teaspoon) is enough.
So how can you integrate flaxseed in your children’s diet?
🥞 In a cake / pancake: when I bake their school banana muffin, I occasionally add a spoon of flaxseed.
🍝 In pasta sauce : If your little one only likes pasta with a sauce, you can boost his dinner by adding a teaspoon of flaxseed in the sauce.
🍗 In breadcrumb coating : when you do the coating of a homemade chicken nugget of home made fish fingers, you can add a spoonful of ground flaxseed in the flour.
🥣 In soups or smoothies : blend it a teaspoon of flaxseed
Note: You can find ground flaxseed at the health shop .

🥣 Cereals are an easy option for the morning, and I get it, not every morning you want to cook/bake something (nor do I) and time is often limited. Plus let’s face it, kids are often still sleepy and just want something light and quick. On days like these, cereals are often a preferred choice for the kids.
If you are offering cereals, then try to offer something that has limited sugar intake as unfortunately, many breakfast cereals marketed to children can be quite high in sugar and are not always ideal to offer first thing in the morning just before school.
When getting your cereals, try lookig at the labels quickly, get those that are plain and :
🍬Low in sugar
🧂Low in salt
🧪Low in additives
💪🏼 Added fortified with nutrients, which often are calcium, B vitamins, vitamin D and iron which can contribute to the children’s diets.
You can swipe to see my preferred options for inspiration. As they are plain, I sometimes add a little drizzle of honey on top when they fancy something a bit sweet.
💡Little Tip : You can use some of these plain cereals like the malted wheats and the hoops to create trail mixes for snack time – cereal, nuts, dried fruit, mini dark chocolate chips (optional)
Note: the three cereals branded Waitrose can be bought at in Bagatelle.
