Assessing the changes presented by the government, we cannot prevent ourselves from concluding that its a perfectly manufactured entrapment where private pre primary schools are left with little choice but to exit the Grant-in-Aid scheme. As operating costs continue to rise, schools are compelled to transition to a fee-paying model in order to remain financially viable. Such an outcome would inevitably place an additional financial burden on parents and could reduce access to quality early childhood education for many families, particularly those from modest-income households. โฃ

Pre primary schools are already facing several challenges imposed by rules which are unclear, ambiguous and disconnected from reality. For example, experienced teachers with diploma in early childhood have become unemployable because of their SC results. The government should focus on removing these artificial impediments instead and let this education sector continue to thrive.โฃ

The future of Mauritius begins long before a child enters primary school. As decisions are made about the future of the pre-primary sector, we respectfully urge the Government to hold on and engage in meaningful consultation with all stakeholders, carefully evaluate the potential impact of proposed reforms, and preserve the strengths of a system that has benefited generations of Mauritian children. โฃ
