Dear Royalists
Subject: Annual Athletics Meet (AAM) 2013 – Stands Good
At a time when the country is struck with a calamity beyond imagination, the youth of Mauritius must stand up and rise from adversity. This is a special message dedicated to all Royalists; do help us to propagate it.
AAM: To Cancel or Maintain?
My colleague and I discussed lengthily over the issue; we also sought the advice of the management and the Head Boy. After deliberations; all parties unanimously agreed that is the weather at Reduit (on Tuesday) causes no real threats to the students’ community then we can keep on the activity.
One of the most reliable weather sites (www.fallingrains.com ) predicts that the weather at Reduit would be fine on Tuesday; though no one is infallible before the whims of nature. However, we do rely on the credibility of the US team behind the forecast (see graph below).
A second factor to motivate the above decision is the availability or rather unavailability of the Reduit Stadium during the 2nd term. When we did the booking last year, only dates we could get in the 2nd term were during the last week of June and 1st week of July. As it stands, these dates also may no longer be available due to the high demand for Maryse Justin. If we postpone, we will need to consider Rose-Belle or Bambous but here again, at this stage we have no idea when these will be available. Third term is the last of option to go forth such an activity; as we would rather recommend students to concentrate on revision during the same period.
We further need to submit the list of RCC team which will be participating for the MSSSA Athletics Championships (Inter-Colleges) by 06th April 2013. So unless we hold the finals before 06.04.2013; we will not be able to field a team for the Inter-Colleges.
Based on these elements; we strongly move to keep the AAM for Tuesday 02.04.2013
March Past & Ceremonials
It is obvious that House-Captains will not be able to prepare for the March Past (defile). However, given the difficult phase that the country is going through, we will not advise you to go for fancy ideas for the March Past.
Our suggestions:
(1) House members to wear black armbands ( you may buy black ribbons and use black cloth)
(2) We will do a symbolic ‘defile’ with no fanfare( you may still wear your house colours and have your mascots)
(3) We will observe ‘One Minute of Silence’ after the National Anthem
All Royalists are kindly requested to display exemplary behaviour throughout the activity and even outside the stadium premises as a sign of respect for our dear ones who lost their lives in the tragedy.
Symbolic Contribution
We request all House-Captains/Royalists to support an endeavour to collect funds/packed food products which we will donate to needy people in the Grande Riviere region. Together with the Prefect Body, we will arrange for a special desk to collect the same and distribute to the needy families after the Sports Day.
