Le Bocage Achieves the Award of "International Accreditation" from the Council of International Schools (CIS)!

The journey began in 2014, with benchmarks identified over the years, goals set (and achieved), reports submitted (and amended), and finally culminating in a 5-day Visit in May 2021 (at the same time as our successful IB MYP, IB DP and IB CP Evaluation Visits).

With 26 Commendations in the Final Report, this is an outstanding achievement and is testament to the amazing work that has been done in the LBIS Community (staff, parents, students, and Board). I am extremely proud to be associated with such an incredible community.

I will be sharing the full report on the new school website (www.lebocage.net) by the end of the week. I have attached the summary of the report on this post (in case you don't have the time to read the full 185-page report...).

Great to see our Little & Big Brothers & Sisters programme get some face-to-face time this week! Our "Bigs" in Form 4 were on campus this week, and the "Bigs" in Form 6 and "Littles" in Form 1 will be coming back soon!

Great to see staff and students on campus. While some teachers have face to face classes, others are dotted around the campus doing their DLP classes; then switching!

While the conditions are not ideal, we’re just happy to get the chance to see our kids back! Students, your campus has missed you!

Well done William, Luke and Rohan!
These three young man spent the best part of three hours of their Saturday lifting, digging, mixing and plastering! They worked extremely well and with a great attitude, on this Motilakaz project.
Really wonderful effort!

"This is a very glowing report for a very good, no, an excellent school".
These were the parting words of the Chair of the IB Visiting Team after our five-day Evaluation Visit in May. A "glowing report" indeed! It may have been just a five-day visit, but it was three years preparation. This was the first time LBIS had the IBMYP, IBDP, and IBCP go through a synchronised visit and credit to the staff for doing such an amazing job! I am also delighted that our students and parents were commended by the Visiting Team; wonderful community effort. I couldn't be more proud!
Now we wait for the CIS Report!

Message from Form 6
Hello everyone,
I hope you’re all making the most of these last few weeks of DLP and you’re surviving this freezing weather. About 2 weeks ago, we sent out a message regarding a newly launched charity organisation called The Second Chance Charity Shop- if you haven’t read it, please do so, it was posted by Mr Jenkins on the 11th of May. I’m glad to see how many of you are willing to donate and have put your details on the google sheets, to have the donations fetched at your house. However, the Charity Shop is also providing 3 meeting points for those of you who would rather bring your donations in yourselves. These are going to be hosted on: Saturday 29th May in the Mont Choisy mall parking from 11am-4pm, Saturday 5th June in the Super U Tamarin parking lot 11am-4pm and Saturday 12th June in the Jumbo mall parking lot 11am-4pm. If you have anything to donate, please do so, it’s for a superb cause. Here are the links for the google sheets, which you can get direct access to by clicking on the link, whilst logged into your school email. Click below if you’re willing to bring your donations to a shopping mall near you: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/179yHAm28vsH_Rp7qKu92JQ9kqLprxe8S4xQ-mN-81hc/edit?usp=sharing

IB & CIS Visit Starts Today!
We are very excited to be starting our synchronised IB & CIS Re-accreditation Visit today. Although we have been working on this since the last CIS Visit in 2014 (and multiple IB Visits for MYP/DP/CP in between), this Visit enables us to work with experienced educators (9 of them) from around the world as we look to build on our strengths and work on those areas that need further development.
Good luck to all the staff, parents, students, Board members, and alumni who will be participating in the Visit over the coming days; I am confident it will be a wonderful learning experience for all of us!

Message from Student Body

Hello everyone (teachers too)! No this isn’t another boring newsletter (Mr Jenkins sends enough of those), so please take the time to read this. We all know these are very difficult times and that a lot of Mauritians are struggling, with the underprivileged at the forefront of this.

As students of an IB school we should all make an effort to help people in whatever way we can. One of the best and most simple ways to do this is by cleaning out our rooms and cupboards. I’m sure we all own plenty of books, toys, clothes and so much more which are in good shape but that we’ve stopped using and are collecting dust on our shelves. Instead of letting these items decompose in your rooms to eventually end up in one of the landfills, give them a new home. A second chance.

The 2nd Chance Charity Shop is a non-profit organisation, newly founded by Mrs Geraldine Perrier, which does just that. It is launching a shop to reduce waste and help those in need, through donations. All items donated to the organisation shall be posted in their shop, in order to be sold to at very discounted prices. In turn all the profits raised will be donated to local charities. Since most of us are ‘recommended’ to stay home, we’ve all got a lot of time on our hands, nothing’s stopping you from having a quick search around your house for items you can donate. I know this sounds cheesy but doing so can actually change lives :)

The 2nd Chance charity shop shall have a truck going around the island collecting donations, so if you’re willing to donate anything, please add your details to the google sheet (below) to simplify the pick up. However, if you would rather stay anonymous, you can also bring your donations to a meeting point, which shall later be decided.

Thank you and stay safe

Students speak to Hiroshima bombing survivor
Today, F5 History and F6 Global Politics students had a rare opportunity to speak with Sadae Kasaoka, a survivor of the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. Mrs. Kasaoka, through a translator, described the true horror of that fateful day in great detail. With powerful visual sources and a captivating narrative, Mrs. Kasaoka helped us get a rare insight into the event, one that books cannot give. The session was carried out online, with a Q&A session at the end. It was an incredible experience to have access to such a valuable primary source, and the impact it had on our students was quite significant. Thank you Ms. Annie, for organising this wonderful event, and thank you Ms. Jackie for the great translation!
