Space Innovation, Public-Private partnerships and Strategic competitiveness: this was the topic of fruitful and passionate discussions with Jim Adams, former NASA deputy chief of Technologies. The panelists were Craig Habmaier, charge d'affairs of the US Embassy, Dr Vikram Bissonauth, Research Coordinator and Professor Theesan Bahorun, Executive Director of the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council. Discussions moderated by John Ries Consul of the US Embassy, covered grassroot innovation, space entrepreneurship, collaboration with NASA, use of satellite data for climate change, environmental issues, agricultural practices coastal management and protection of our maritime economic zone from illegal fishing. The pertinence of training of researchers in satellite data analyses and AI use was emphasised amongst others. This panel discussion was organised by the US embassy under the Freedom250: Artemis and US Leadership in Space Innovation program.

The Mauritius Research and Innovation Council had the privilege of welcoming Mr Jim Adams, Former NASA Deputy Chief Technologist, along with US officials, for a courtesy meeting held at its premises on Monday 18th May 2026.

✨ The Academy of Design and Innovation (ADI) organised an exhibition on Friday 15 May 2026 at its premises in Vallée des Prêtres to showcase the achievements of the MRIC funded project “Creating Craft Products using Ravenala Madagascariensis and Textile Fabric Waste.”

The event brought together valued collaborators and partners, including the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), to celebrate the progress and outcomes of this innovative and sustainable initiative.

As a token of appreciation for its support, ADI presented MRIC with a special gift during the event. Guests were also invited for a guided tour of the exhibition, where ADI highlighted the milestones and progress achieved throughout the project.

The occasion also marked the official launch of the project booklet, showcasing the project journey and its contribution towards sustainability, innovation, and circular economy practices. 🌱♻️
