7 years ago, over 7000 coral fragments were transplanted in Trou aux Biches by GEF Small Grants Programme grantee, ELI Africa. Today it's a thriving ecosystem generating sustainable ocean livelihoods through ecotourism!

Big up to our volunteers who were at Mahebourg Waterfront making oil booms this week. We will be working with other NGOs and the authorities, continuing these efforts until we succeed.
Massive thank you to the hundreds of volunteers, to Rotary Club of Mahebourg, ECOSUD, and Rezistans ek Alternativ for being on the ground and just relentlessly, day in day out, helping to counter the effects of this oil spill.
Absolutely heartwarming to see everyone coming together for one cause!

The 26th of July is the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem. Indeed these ecosystems which support a rich biodiversity, a unique coastal marine life and act as effective protection against tsunamis, rising sea levels and coastal erosion, are disappearing with serious impacts on our environment. In line with Currimjee Groupâs values - Responsibility and Foresight - our company Emtel in partnership with NGO ELI Africa have been planting mangroves at Grand Gaube and Poste La Fayette.

5th June 2020... The Worldâs Environment Day! This year like any other, we are focusing on an important topic that is actually having an impact on our global environment. It is âCELEBRATE BIODIVERSITYâ.
What is biodiversity to you?
If you donât know let me help you out...
Biodiversity which comes from âbiologyâ and âdiversityâ refers to every single living organisms around us. It starts from the miniscule genotype to the largest vertebrate. They all play a vital part in our lives. However, we have the tendency to neglect them. The most impactful and biggest example is the extinction of many living species in the Amazonian forest of Colombia or it can be the most recent crime of a pregnant elephant in Kerala. Thatâs not done! Who told the humans that they own the earth? We arenât owners of this earth, we are just a part of it. If we humans bring innovation to this world; the other living organisms bring even more important things in our lives and that is food, pure air, water, and many more. We are all a family and I believe that we should all stand against injustice towards our members.
Now, how??? Well, we arenât asking people to get on the street to fight against these injustices or do a sitting in front of the white house... far from that.. Itâs SIMPLE!
Plant a tree, a flower plant or a vegetable... we all did that right; during the lockdown because that little âcotomilliâ or âqueue dâoignonâ were becoming too expensive. Now, letâs maintain the plantation. If we can do it in the time of need, well we can do it when we have the protect our environment. Have a garden; it can be anywhere, terrace, front yard, pots, near your window, PLANT!
At Eli Africa, we also encourage people to plant at least ONE endemic plant and we will help you with it.
Whatâs next? More excuses... no places for planting! Again, you canât escape! You can reduce the use of water... we arenât encouraging âno drinking of waterâ far from that. We are encouraging reduction of waste of water. You do shower 15-20mins per day right? Smoothing... huh?? I know it is! But as from now when you do so, THINK... think of the millions of things that can be done with that extra water. One single drop of water is elixir to those who arenât lucky enough to enjoy that daily flow of water from their taps. If you are lucky enough then learn value it!
Thereâs more that you can do... that was just two big examples... other things that can be done, go for a walk. We are aware of how good as a driver you are with your latest car... but can you compare a drive to the feeling of a walk in the nature... Mauritius has plentiful of botanical gardens... grab your map and pick a place! Youâll find nature... The fauna and flora of the island is exceptional and exquisite. Make the most of it! Be proud of it...
Other ways just comes along... cycling, swimming, recycling, educating the youth; make them learn the importance of a clean environment...
We are all one in this! We can all make a change...
It all starts with âTHINK DIFFERENTâ.
