The Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations Malta (FELTOM) is a self-regulating, non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting professionalism in the English language teaching industry. FELTOM’s early Codes of Conduct formed the basis of national legislation which today regulates State licensing of English Language schools in Malta and Gozo. All FELTOM member schools must meet accre
ditation requirements before they can become fully accredited members of the Federation. Prospective English Language students can be assured of a quality experience when choosing a FELTOM school. Thanks to the incessant efforts of the EFL Monitoring Board within the Ministry for Education and Employment and FELTOM (The Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations, Malta), Maltese ELT schools are very strictly regulated in order to ensure that high standards are kept and enhanced from year to year. Regular inspections of both the physical and academic facilities of ELT schools in Malta are carried out every year. Moreover, regular teacher training courses are organised in-house by the schools as part of their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) initiatives, and by the EFL Monitoring Board, MATEFL (Malta Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language) and FELTOM. Malta’s success in seeing a regular growth of the ELT industry from year to year is a living testimonial that Maltese ELT schools are reliable and proud of their high standards. All teachers employed in these schools are obliged to have a set of minimum qualifications, which include foundation teacher-training courses and a pass in an English proficiency examination specially designed for the needs of English language teachers. In addition, most teachers possess various international ELT qualifications, such as the Cambridge ESOL CELTA or the Trinity Cert. In many cases, teachers also hold the Cambridge ESOL DELTA, the Trinity Dip. TESOL, or postgraduate degrees in ELT.
