In 2017, Joe Toscano decided to leave his job as an Experience Design consultant at Google, driven by concerns about the misuse of user data within the tech industry in Silicon Valley. Since then he has published a book, done a TEDx talk and appeared in the documentary The Social Dilemma, which went viral on He has been the driving force behind a couple of startups focusing on individual data privacy โ his latest venture is Datagrade.
In his Malta talk, Mr Toscano will discuss human-centred approaches to internet design, user privacy, digital literacy, data protection and the attention economy. We'll also use the 3CLโs Young People and Information Manifesto as a primer for insights on how misinformation and surveillance can be combatted with digital and information literacies.
