Some information about the latest Seismic Activity around Europe 🌍⚠️
1. You cannot predict earthquakes nor stop them
2. Maltas seismic activity is quite low as we are not sitting on any plate boundary edge. It is not impossible to get an earthquake, but it is not very likely.
3.The movement between the African plate (where malta is at) and the Eurasian plate is a convergent boundary. This means the African plate is subducting (sinking) below the Eurasian plate. Areas where subduction zones collide, one plate dives below the other. Therefore, the African plate is diving below the Eurasian plate....and earthquakes take place and we are feeling the tremors.
4. The last earthquake which hit Malta from Sicily was in 1693 of magnitude 7.4
5. Turkey is one of the most earthquake prone countries in the world.
6. Turkey is on the Anatolian plate, a small tectonic plate that is being squeezed to the west while the Arabian plate to the east slams into the Eurasian plate.
7. Many of Turkey’s severe earthquakes occur on one of the two faults on this Anatolian plates sides, meaning our tremors are not a cause nor a prediction.
8. It clear that there is a lot of unrest within the Earth's structure but we cannot predict what's to happen exactly and where... such natural disasters occur without much warning, if any at all.
