For the second consecutive year, Malta will welcome the world’s best freedivers to Gozo for an extraordinary week of competition and endurance. The Malta Freediving Open and the Danish Freediving National Championships will run side by side between 18–22 August 2025, showcasing four distinct disciplines that challenge athletes to push the limits of human breath-holding and underwater performance.

The programme begins on 18 August with Constant Weight, where divers descend with fins without altering their weight or pulling on the rope. On 19 August, competitors take on Constant Weight with Bifins, a discipline requiring the use of bifins only. After a rest day, the competition resumes on 21 August with Constant Weight No Fins, a pure test of strength and efficiency requiring divers to descend and ascend unassisted. Finally, on 22 August, the challenge concludes with Free Immersion, where athletes pull themselves along the line without fins to reach their target depth.

All events will take place in Gozo’s open waters, under strict safety measures, with Transport Malta issuing Local Notice to Mariners RS No 135 of 2025 to safeguard participants. These championships not only highlight the skill and resilience of freedivers but also position Malta as a growing hub for international underwater sports.
