MESO is a non-political, student organisation which aims to build a community of Engineering Students

11/12/2018

“Dear MCAST IET Students,

An Extraordinary General Meeting will be held on the 12th of December 10:00 at the Auditorium located in the Institute of Applied Sciences. Amongst other issues, the engineering warrant will be discussed.

The MCAST Engineering Students Organisation MESO fully encourage any current student to participate so that they will learn about this issue and so that they will have the opportunity to express themselves on such an important issue. Any concerns will be discussed with the committee and the Director for the Institute of Engineering and Transport, Ing. R. Vassallo.

The MESO committee will also be providing information regarding the student lead racing team "Skuderia Dinamika" in the endeavour to identify students who would be interested in participating in this very interesting project and eventually to represent the MCAST engineering community locally and abroad.

Thanks and regards,
Sean Mallia
MESO President”

This Wednesday, KSM held their AGM. The Administrative Report presented included both ongoing projects as well as those concluded. Namely: the enforcement of a new statute and the Solidaritree programme. A discussion was held and the report was voted in favour. A speech of gratitude was given by the KSM officers, and was followed by the Electoral Commission elections.

Read on for further details

Held this Wednesday, 12 of November, the turnout of this meeting was a definite improvement over the previous year, with more than 120 students. Starting off at 12:30, the Student Liaison Manager, Ms Marina Sceberras, was elected to chair the meeting.

The AGM progressed with the reading of the Administrative Report. Here the KSM described the work they carried out during their term. Projects including: launching a new logo and statute, appointing the Social Policy Commissioner (KPS), introducing the Maritime Institute into the Maritime Hub, and tackling the MCAST Wi-Fi connectivity issues.

KSM also mentioned their ongoing collaboration with our Organisation, MESO, to resolve the Warrant entitlement process, announcing that a meeting was held with the Minister of Education regarding this matter, which meeting our Organisation was not aware of.

More recently, a sub-committee was formed to administrate the Solidaritree program in conjunction with the Solidaritree campaign launched by the President of Malta, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

Mentioned in the same report were the outstanding 80% of the projects that have been passed to the competent authorities and which have to be executed in the coming weeks/months. The ex*****on of the projects was passed on to the authorities due to limited funds and lack of human resources.

After the Administrative report was presented, a time slot was allocated for discussion between the students present. An important highlight of the discussion was the politically biased students present at the meeting. On the other hand, the chairperson maintained absolute neutrality throughout. The discussion was succeeded by an election of approval of the Administrative Report. The report was voted in favour with a 68/58 majority.

A single statute amendment was put in place by the KSM, where the Institute Liaison Office was dropped from the Council and was replaced by the Student Liaison Manager. Ms Marina Sceberras, is automatically appointed to this role.

A speech by KSM was given in appreciation of the opportunity to represent MCAST students and to augur success to the succeeding KSM Council.

The meeting ended with the Electoral Commission elections. Each organisation present at the meeting appointed their respective to overlook the election process (where I appointed myself), and also voted for an Electoral Commissioner.
