Welcome to Haileybury Malta, a British international school for pupils of all nationalities.

Cambridge International Education and International Baccalaureate DP Accredited. We will be opening our doors to the first pupils in September 2023 close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Tarxien Temples. The main school campus, the Royal Naval Hospital in Mtarfa, opens in September 2024. The school is in a glorious location with stunning views across the Maltese landscape and to the ancient walled city of Mdina.

Well… we did it. ❤️

Three years ago, Haileybury Malta opened its doors with just 50 pupils, a small team, and a rather large ambition.

Yesterday, we officially opened our permanent home in Mtarfa.

Following an extraordinary €19 million restoration, the historic former Mtarfa military hospital has begun its next chapter: as a school for a new generation of young people.

We were enormously proud to welcome Deputy Prime Minister, Ian Borg, and Minister for Education, Byron Camilleri, to inaugurate the campus, alongside our Governors, colleagues, families and friends of the school.

Our new home brings together Nursery, Prep, Senior School and, for the first time this year, Sixth Form, with space for our community to grow to as many as 700 pupils in the years ahead.

But perhaps the loveliest thing about Saturday was seeing this remarkable building doing what we have always hoped it would do: coming back to life.

There have been a few cranes, rather a lot of scaffolding, countless boxes, and one or two moments when September seemed alarmingly close,

We are home. 💙

Today, our attention turns to the great outdoors. 🌿

The landscaping at Mtarfa has been coming along in leaps, bounds and an encouraging quantity of foliage.

New native species have been planted, greenery is appearing in all the right places, and tables have arrived for our shaded woodland area, ready for outdoor lessons, lunchtime conversations and the occasional pupil (and teacher!) who has discovered that “working outside” is an excellent way of making work feel rather less like work.

After months of cranes, scaffolding and construction machinery, it is rather wonderful to see the campus becoming greener by the day.

The buildings may have been here for generations.

The garden, rather splendidly, is just getting started. 🌳💚

First day of INSET. 🎓

New faces. Familiar faces. A new school in a very old building, freshly restored, magnificently revived, and now required to accommodate several hundred people attempting to work out where everything is.

There is something rather splendid about the first day back: old friends reunited, new colleagues welcomed into the fold, and all of us getting acquainted with a building that has considerably more history than any of its present occupants.

By the end of the day, we had found most of the rooms, learned several new names and, crucially, established the whereabouts of the staff common room.

The old place has a new lease of life.

And so, we rather think, do we. 💙

🎙️ And now, a remarkable moment in the life cycle of the Mtarfa building site…

For many months, the Great Tower Crane has dominated the skyline, its long neck sweeping majestically above the campus as it goes about its mysterious business.

But change is coming.

As inauguration approaches, a smaller and more agile creature has arrived.

The Mobile Crane.

Its purpose? To dismantle the larger crane.

Yes. Nature is extraordinary. 🏗️

Carefully, it will pick apart its enormous relative, piece by piece, until at last the Great Crane disappears from the Mtarfa skyline altogether.

And then, silence.

The construction machinery will gradually migrate elsewhere. The dust will settle. The final barriers will vanish.

And into this newly completed habitat will come an entirely different population…

Children. Hundreds of them.

Just days to go. 😍

With just a few days to go until our grand inauguration, how is the new school looking?

Well, if we may say so ourselves, rather splendid. 😍

The final touches are being touched, the last details are being detailed, and our magnificent old building is looking increasingly as though it has been waiting all these years for Haileybury Malta to come along and fill it with pupils.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆…

In just a couple of weeks, Haileybury Malta will begin its fourth year and, for the first time, we will welcome our pupils through the doors of our permanent home at the historic Royal Naval Hospital in Mtarfa.

After three years of growing our school and our community, this September marks an extraordinary milestone: a magnificent heritage building transformed into a state-of-the-art campus, where outstanding facilities meet an exceptional British education.

As a British-curriculum international school, we combine the best of British education with the outlook and opportunities of an international community. This summer also brought another important milestone: our first-ever Cambridge IGCSE results, with our pioneering first cohort achieving a fantastic set of results of which we are enormously proud.

There comes a moment in the life of every new school campus when one can cease staring anxiously at scaffolding and begin to notice the flora and fauna.

And at Mtarfa, both are now flourishing splendidly.

🌿 The flora: trees, shrubs and assorted greenery are settling into their new surroundings, while the landscaping is rapidly transforming the grounds into something rather glorious.

🦎 The fauna: pupils are not yet in evidence, but we have every confidence that this particular species will arrive in considerable numbers very soon.

With just over two weeks until our Grand Opening, the transformation of our beautiful new Mtarfa campus continues apace.

The trees are green.
The classrooms are readying themselves.
The builders are gradually retreating.

And somewhere in the distance, one can almost hear the approaching thunder of school shoes…

Mtarfa is coming to life. 🌿🏫✨
