🇬🇧 Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting an industry-engagement session with Baxter Malta at the Faculty of Engineering as part of their sponsorship package for the 2024/25 academic year.
The session provided students and researchers with the opportunity to learn more about Baxter Malta and its work within the healthcare sector. Attendees also engaged directly with Baxter engineers and Faculty alumni, Inġ. Marilyn Chetcuti and Mr Keith Mercieca, gaining valuable insight into their professional experiences at Baxter and the career opportunities available within the company.
We would like to thank Baxter Malta for their support and sponsorship of last year’s annual engineering exhibition, as well as for taking the time to meet with our students and researchers. Collaborations such as these are instrumental in strengthening the link between academia and industry while offering meaningful professional exposure to our students and researchers.

Is-sessjoni tat l-opportunità lill-istudenti u r-riċerkaturi biex jitgħallmu aktar dwar Baxter Malta u l-ħidma tagħha fis-settur tal-kura tas-saħħa. Dawk preżenti kellhom ukoll iċ-ċans jiddiskutu b’mod dirett mal-inġiniera ta’ Baxter u ma' eks-studenti tal-Fakultà, l-Inġ. 🇬🇧 On World Environment Day (5th June), the Faculty of Engineering highlights research advancing biodegradable magnesium-based scaffolds for enhanced bone repair. Through innovative surface engineering, these implant materials are designed to provide temporary support to heal fractures and gradually dissolve once their function is fulfilled, eliminating the need for secondary removal surgery. By reducing long-term medical waste and improving patient recovery, this approach supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, demonstrating how sustainable materials engineering can contribute to both healthier patients and a healthier planet🌍

Permezz ta' inġinerija innovattiva tal-wiċċ, dawn il-materjali tal-impjanti huma ddisinjati biex jipprovdu appoġġ temporanju għall-fejqan ta’ ksur u jinħallu gradwalment ladarba l-funzjoni tagħhom tkun twettqet, u b'hekk jeliminaw il-ħtieġa għal operazzjoni sekondarja ta’ tneħħija. ProMinent Fluid Controls Ltd are currently looking for an R&D Prototyping & Test Engineer.
The role involves: • Electronic prototyping • PCB assembly and testing • Debugging electronic circuits • Laboratory measurements and testing • Supporting prototype-to-production transition
Requirements: • Degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent qualification • Good understanding of electronic components and circuits • Familiarity with laboratory test equipment • Strong organisational and teamwork skills
Experience with PCB design tools and hands-on prototyping experience are considered assets. Final year Electrical Engineering students are also being considered for the role.

🇬🇧 On Earth Day, the University of Malta underscores its commitment to sustainability through TowFOWT, a research project aimed at reducing fuel consumption and emissions during the towing of floating offshore wind turbines 🌊💨
By improving the efficiency of offshore wind deployment, the project contributes to global efforts to mitigate climate change 🌡️⬇️ and promotes more responsible use of marine resources.
Project TowFOWT is funded by Xjenza Malta and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MOST) under the SINO-MALTA Fund 2024 Call (Science and Technology Cooperation).
