Since its launch nearly 4 years ago, the James Webb Space Telescope has been revolutionising our understanding of how galaxies form and involve.
Prof. Andrew Bunker's team has found some of the most distant galaxies so far, and light left these when the Universe was less than 5% of its current age, a time before many of the chemical elements we know today had formed in stars.
Prof. Bunker will show the latest images from James Webb, and explain how taking a spectrum gives us more information about how rapidly stars are forming in the early universe.

🔥 Project Hyper4B is pushing the boundaries of breast cancer treatment through microwave hyperthermia, a precise, non-invasive technique that gently heats tumour tissue to boost the effectiveness of existing therapies.
Developed at the Electromagnetics Research Group, with funding from Xjenza Malta and TÜBİTAK, this innovative approach uses antenna arrays to target tumours deep inside the body while sparing healthy tissue.

We're thrilled to share that Prof Joseph Caruana has been honoured with the DarkSky International 2025 Dark Sky Defender Award for Europe in recognition of his outstanding commitment to fighting light-pollution across the Maltese Islands
This award shines light (quite literally) on his crucial work in:
✨ Mapping night-sky brightness across Malta and Gozo
✨ Leading outreach, public advocacy and research that unites science, culture, ecology and heritage.
✨ Championing the protection of dark places like Dwejra, and calling on authorities for better lighting design and enforceable policies.
Joseph dedicated the award to his students, volunteers, and the many environmental organisations working alongside him.
Let’s all celebrate this wonderful achievement and let it inspire us to reclaim our dark skies, cherish our natural night heritage, and work for a more star-filled future! ðŸŒ
