🚲 Yesterday, we held one of our final advanced cycling sessions

Participants practised cycling from the running track to different campus parking areas, moving confidently between spaces, using proper hand signals, and safely interacting with other vehicles. The group also cycled around nearby streets and blocks to build confidence in real traffic conditions and gain practical experience on how to behave safely in traffic.

It was great to see participants improving their manoeuvring skills and becoming more comfortable cycling on the road.

As the days are getting warmer, next week’s session will likely wrap up this season’s activities before the summer break. We look forward to ending the programme on a high note! 🚴☀️

A big thank you to the team from The Cyclist San Ġwann for delivering an engaging and practical bike maintenance workshop at our University of Malta 🚲🔧

Participants had the opportunity to learn essential cycling skills including bike cleaning, tyre checks, brake inspections, fixing a flat tyre, and knowing when a bike needs servicing. These hands-on sessions help make cycling safer, easier, and more enjoyable for everyday travel.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and brought along their bikes! 🌱💚

Yesterday we welcomed two new beginners to our cycling programme, joining the group who started learning just last week 🚲

It’s great to see confidence building so quickly, with participants already progressing together and supporting one another.

Visitors also had the opportunity to try out an electric bike ⚡ — a great way to experience different types of cycling and discover what works best for them.

Next step: moving on to a more advanced session… and we’re really looking forward to it!

Mobility in Malta is evolving — and recent research is shedding light on how we move and why it matters 🚶‍♀️🚲

Studies on everyday mobility highlight how walking experiences can differ across groups, with factors like safety, comfort, and social context shaping how people navigate public space.

At the same time, emerging research on new modes like e-scooters shows how micro-mobility is becoming part of the transport mix — offering flexible alternatives for short trips.

These insights, alongside work on post-COVID mobility patterns, point to a growing need to support more inclusive, safe, and sustainable ways of getting around 🌿

At the University of Malta, active travel initiatives continue to encourage walking, cycling, and shared mobility as practical everyday choices.
