Transport Theme Activities 🚗🅿️🧽
A range of transport-themed experiences allowed children to explore different types of play linked to real-life situations.
Parking play gave children the opportunity to guide cars into spaces, developing awareness of direction, position, and early problem-solving as they worked out how vehicles fit and move within a set space.
Tuff tray exploration supported open-ended learning, where children used roads, vehicles, and accessories to create their own small worlds. This encouraged storytelling, collaboration, and imaginative thinking as they built and extended their play.
Car wash activity brought a sensory and practical element, with children washing and caring for vehicles using water, sponges, and tools. This supported fine motor development, coordination, and an understanding of care and responsibility through hands-on engagement.
Three simple but powerful experiences that combined imagination, physical skills, and real-world understanding through play.

Simple materials, big discoveries.
Children created their own small paper boats and then tested them in water to see what would happen — float or sink? The excitement came from the guessing, the testing, and the changing outcomes.
Some boats stayed afloat, others slowly tipped or sank, sparking curiosity and conversation about why things behave differently in water. Children experimented by adjusting shapes, adding or removing parts, and trying again.
A playful introduction to early scientific thinking — full of hands-on exploration, problem-solving, and lots of “let’s try again!” moments.

Children engaged in a lively gross motor experience inspired by caterpillars, exploring movement through crawling, stretching, and slow, deliberate motion along the ground. This imaginative approach encouraged them to connect physical movement with creativity, as they experimented with how a caterpillar might travel, pause, and navigate its environment.
An obstacle course added further challenge and excitement, with children crawling around cones, moving through tunnels, and carefully navigating over and between different spaces. These activities supported the development of strength, coordination, balance, and spatial awareness, while also encouraging persistence and confidence in physical movement.
A particularly engaging moment emerged when children worked together to form one long “caterpillar,” moving as a coordinated group. This shared experience promoted teamwork, turn-taking, and awareness of others, as children adjusted their pace and movement to stay connected as a team.
Through this playful and active exploration, children were able to combine imagination with physical development, turning movement into a shared and meaningful learning experience.

Who said food can’t be fun?
When children turn fruit and veg into creations like cars, magic happens — they explore, build, laugh, and naturally get curious about what they’re handling. No pressure, just play.
Along the way, they’re tasting new textures, discovering new flavours, and becoming way more open to healthy foods… all while being little creators.
Play first. Learning follows. Always.

Frozen flowers turned into a magical sensory adventure as children explored ice, colour, and texture all in one experience. Curiosity quickly took over as they discovered hidden flowers trapped inside the ice, working out different ways to free them.
Scooping, tapping, and melting became part of the challenge, building strength and coordination while keeping the experience playful and engaging. The changing ice sparked excitement and conversation as children noticed what was happening and shared their discoveries with one another.
A simple setup that led to big curiosity, teamwork, and plenty of joyful exploration.

Children engaged in rich pretend play inspired by an airport setting, where they created their own passports and boarding passes as part of their play. This experience invited them to step into different roles such as travellers, check-in staff, and airport officers, building imaginative scenarios together.
Through this type of play, children naturally developed early communication and social skills as they negotiated roles, shared ideas, and followed simple sequences of events. The process of creating passports and boarding passes also supported early literacy and mark-making, as children began to recognise that written symbols can represent identity, information, and purpose.
Mathematical awareness was also present as children explored ideas of numbers, counting, and order, such as seat numbers or boarding sequences. At the same time, they were developing confidence in expressing themselves within a shared narrative, strengthening creativity, cooperation, and problem-solving.
This engaging role play experience allowed children to connect imagination with real-life experiences in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

The airport café role play offered children the opportunity to step into a variety of roles, including passengers, café workers, and air crew members. This created a rich and dynamic setting where children could interact, collaborate, and build shared narratives inspired by real-life travel experiences.
A strong focus emerged around social interaction and communication, as children practised everyday language within meaningful contexts. Words and phrases such as “welcome,” “please,” and “thank you” were used naturally throughout the play, supporting both confidence and social development.
The café setting also encouraged hands-on exploration through scooping, spreading, and serving pretend food. These actions helped strengthen fine motor skills while also introducing early concepts linked to ordering, serving, and exchange. Children were able to connect movement, language, and imagination as they worked together to run their busy airport café.
Through this engaging experience, children developed creativity, cooperation, and early communication skills in a way that felt purposeful, enjoyable, and closely linked to real-world situations.

Small World Play: Our Busy Town Tuff Tray
The children engaged in a rich small world experience using a tuff tray set up as a busy town. Roads, cars, a hospital, a police station, and a pond with ducks invited them to explore and create their own stories within a familiar environment.
This type of play supported children in building early understanding of how different parts of a community connect and work together. As they moved vehicles along the roads and created scenarios involving the hospital and police station, children developed their imagination, language skills, and social awareness through shared storytelling and role play.
The pond area with ducks added a natural element to the scene, encouraging children to notice how living things can be part of everyday environments too. This led to discussions around care, safety, and how people and animals coexist within a community.
Through this hands-on, open-ended setup, children were able to experiment, collaborate, and express ideas freely, strengthening creativity, problem-solving, and communication in a meaningful and engaging way.
