𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟯 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗫 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲

And that brings AIMC 2026 to a close! The third and final day centred on meaningful discussions, thought-provoking presentations and engaging research around The Academic’s Compass.

The day began with the panel discussion, “The Pedagogy of Care: Navigating the Heart of Education”, moderated by Dr Glorianne Borg Axisa, featuring Dr Omar N'Shea, Ms Karen Buttigieg, Ms Ann Marie Cassar and Prof. Dina Tsagari. The panel explored care, inclusion and wellbeing in education, and how academic excellence and pastoral care can coexist in today’s educational environments.

This was followed by a plenary presentation by Mr Roderick Vassallo, “Understanding Academic Staff Perspectives on the new SEC Model (Phase I)”, a study conducted by the Malta Further Education Forum.

The afternoon continued with parallel sessions covering diverse research and ideas under ‘Inclusion, Social Engagement & Wellbeing’ and ‘Culture, Museums, Libraries & Heritage’.

Across three days, AIMC 2026 provided a valuable space for academics, educators and researchers to share ideas, reflect on current challenges and explore new perspectives across teaching, research, learning and leadership.

The AIMC Committee would like to thank the keynote speakers, the spotlight expert, chairpersons, panellists, moderators, presenters, participants, and all Junior College staff involved in organising the conference and contributing to yet another successful event.

Today’s programme brings together further presentations, emerging ideas and stimulating conversations, as we continue to spotlight the research, perspectives and connections shaping this year’s conference.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗫 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲

Day 2 of AIMC 2026 brought together thought-provoking discussions, inspiring perspectives and engaging research across the different dimensions of The Academic’s Compass.

The day began with the panel discussion, “The Ethical Horizon: Integrity, Innovation, and AI in Modern Scholarship”, moderated by Dr Noel Vella. The discussion featured Prof. Patrick J. Schembri, Prof. Vanessa Camilleri, Dr Maria Brown and Prof. Jean-Paul De Lucca, who explored the importance of research integrity, ethical responsibility and the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence in modern scholarship.

This was followed by an inspiring keynote address by Dr Maria Brown, Senior Lecturer in Arts, Open Communities, and Adult Education at the University of Malta, titled “Calibrating The Academic’s Compass: Reflexive Praxis, Shared Leadership and Civic Presence”, chaired by Ms Maria Giuliana Fenech Inguanez. The keynote reflected on the importance of ongoing professional learning, shared leadership, reflection, mentoring and the role of academics as active contributors within their communities.

The afternoon continued with a series of parallel sessions covering a wide range of research and ideas under the themes of 'Pedagogical Matters', 'Science Education & Gender Issues', and 'Graphs, Gamification & Technology'.

𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲!

Registrations for participants who have not already registered yesterday evening will take place at the landing of Block A, Third Floor, between 08:30 and 09:00 hrs.

The second day continues the conference journey with a full line-up of thought-provoking sessions, fresh perspectives and engaging exchanges across different areas of research.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗫 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲

We officially kicked off AIMC 2026 at the Ġ.F. Abela Junior College, bringing together academics and professionals for three days of research, dialogue and knowledge exchange under this year’s theme, “The Academic’s Compass – Navigating the Complexities of Teaching, Research, Learning, and Leadership in Further Education.”

The conference opened with a welcome address by Mr Roderick Vassallo, AIMC Chair, followed by the official opening speech by Hon. Dr Byron Camilleri, Minister for Education and Sport.

The evening continued with a keynote address by Professor Dina Tsagari, Professor in English Language Pedagogy at Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway, who explored “Navigating Assessment in Multilingual Classrooms: Language Assessment Literacy as an Academic Compass for Inclusive Education.”

Day 1 concluded with a special Spotlight Conversation with Professor Alfred Vella, UM Rector Emeritus, interviewed by Mr Roderick Vassallo, offering an opportunity to reflect on the evolving identity and role of the academic.

The evening drew to a close with a networking reception, bringing delegates together for conversations, connections and the sharing of ideas.

Good evening and welcome to the ninth edition of the Annual International Multidisciplinary Conference (AIMC) at Connections Conference & Meeting Facilities, Junior College, Msida.

Registration is currently open at Block A, 3rd Floor, where you will be given a conference bag with some goodies and your conference tag. You will then be guided to the Plenary Hall on the same floor, where the official opening by Mr Roderick Vassallo, Chairperson of the AIMC Committee and Vice Principal of the Junior College, together with the Hon. Minister Byron Camilleri, Minister for Education and Sport, will commence soon.
