I know i’m cute, but please don’t touch me.
I’m little, my immune system is still developing, and your germs are too big for me.

You might think touching my hands or feet is harmless and poses no risk. But Im constantly putting them both in my mouth.

You might think nothing of a kiss to the head, but 50-80% of adults are carriers of HSV-1 (Oral Herpes.) And most people aren’t even aware that they have it.

Cold sores are life threatening to infants, it can become neonatal herpes and spread to other parts of the infants body. Affecting their brain, liver ang other organs. It can also lead to seizures, developmental delays and even death.

So that small interaction may seem harmless to you.
But it can potentially bring serious life threatening complications to me.

- Sincerely that adorable newborn.

April is C section awareness month so here is a reminder that getting a C-section is not the “easy way out.”

You get an epidural.
You get a catheter.
Your stomach is cut open.
Your organs are literally pulled out and put back in.

And you’re left with a scar.
A scar that reminds you every single day
of the strength it took
to bring your baby into this world.

There’s nothing easy about that.
It’s not weak.
It’s not the easy choice.

It’s brave.
It’s strong.
It’s love.

A natural birth plays a crucial role in preparing a baby’s body for life outside the womb by triggering important physical and neurological developments 👶

Remodeling of the skull and meninges: This process prepares the spine’s reorganization through reflexes, with the skull and palate undergoing significant adjustments.

Decompression of the skull base and spinal stretch: The birth process naturally relieves pressure and stimulates spinal alignment.

Ignition of vital reflexes: The neck reflex is triggered as the baby’s head passes under the p***c bones, which, in turn, activates the lumbar reflex.

In contrast, planned C-section babies often miss these essential mechanical stimulations (emergency C-sections are categorized as trauma).

This can lead to immediate issues such as latching difficulties, vomiting, skull deformation, and difficulty engaging their lower back or lifting their head.

Over time, these imbalances and weaknesses may persist, affecting their development and overall well-being.

Other critical processes during natural birth include colonization of the skin and mouth by the mother’s vaginal biome, nervous system activation through gentle brain stimulation, lung activation, and the establishment of pain perception pathways via sensory experiences.

These steps are vital for a baby’s early development, with many elements still not fully understood.

While mechanical imbalances are a common cause of symptoms, it’s essential to note that other medical, biological, or external factors could also be at play.

Osteopaths are trained to identify these and refer patients to the appropriate medical professionals when needed.

My comments here focus specifically on the mechanical consequences of C-sections and the common symptoms observed in practice.

The Midnight Milk Café

Jessica never thought she’d be running a 24/7 all-you-can-eat buffet, but here she was—CEO, executive chef, and sole employee of The Midnight Milk Café. The restaurant had exactly one very demanding customer: her six-month-old son, Max.

It was 2:47 AM, and just as she drifted into sleep, the customer placed his order. Again.

WAAAAAH!

Jessica groaned. “Sir, the kitchen is closed,” she mumbled, but Max was having none of it.

Half-asleep, she scooped him up and latched him on. He immediately settled, slurping loudly. Her husband, Dave, snored peacefully beside them, completely oblivious. She glared at him. How nice it must be to sleep through the demanding patrons of the b**b bar.

Just as she started dozing off, she felt it—a little hand reaching up and twiddling her other ni**le like he was searching for the radio station.

“Excuse me, sir,” she whispered. “This is a one tap establishment. The other side is closed for renovations.”

Max ignored her, increasing his grip like he was trying to tune into Breastfeeding FM: The Greatest Hits of Sleep Deprivation.

She sighed. “At least leave a tip.”

Max responded by unlatching, giving a sleepy, milky grin—then promptly spitting up down her shirt.

Tip received.

As she wiped herself off and tried to shift Max back to his crib, she caught her reflection in the mirror: wild hair, dark circles, one b**b still hanging out of her pajama top. She looked like she’d been through a battle.

Because she had.

And just as she laid Max down and tiptoed back to bed, she heard it:

WAAAAH!

The Midnight Milk Café never closed.
