Puppets are a great way to engage the attention and imagination of all ages, to promote children’s learning of new skills and concepts.
The children from all grades were given a task, where each one could explore a chosen story or create their own and then make up their puppets, personalities and roles. Puppets and backdrops were handcrafted from materials, even recycled ones they might have had at home. Each student was given a moment in the spotlight to perform their unique stories. These even took place while we were still online.
Puppetry can be used to help explore one’s imagination and creativity. Puppet shows teach children to think about strategies of using direct speech, to deliver and act within the stage set, by using their imagination and play, to transport meaning to the audience. Within the puppet show all characters express a wide range of emotions. Children transform themselves as part of the story when they project their characters’ voices and deliver the characteristics of the characters during their show. It is a good way of also encouraging story telling.
The children really enjoyed these performances and they gave praise to each other. This helps build self-esteem and confidence. A very big well done to all!

The mysterious animal
by Chesdon Xuereb, Grade 3C
WELL DONE
One day three scientists were in a submarine. They were in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Suddenly the submarine was struck by something strange. The scientists were okay after the hit but they saw something moving so they went closer. It was a mysterious animal and they decided to call it Pungasaurus. Pungasaurus is 10ft tall and 5ft long. It can live under water and on land. It is a herbivore and there are three species of it. The ones with green eyes are kind, the ones with blue eyes are shy and the ones with red eyes are ferocious. The submarine came back to land and the scientists told facts about the Pungasaurus.

Well done Emily Marie Vella of Grade 3 Ms Camilleri for creating an animal using Switch Zoo and writing out her story about it:
The mysterious animal
Once upon a time there was a very mysterious animal. He was really rare and the other animals just laughed. They didn't know that he was a rare animal. They said he was ugly and other mean stuff. The rare animal only had one friend, a sweet turtle. He loved playing with his friend turtle.
Once it was just a normal day. The mysterious animal was walking in the forest. Suddenly he saw a mysterious shadow. He thought it was a friend. He went to look at the shadow but he saw no one. In a split of a second he got shot by a sleeping dart. Turtle was always near him and he heard everything. He tried to rush but he couldn't of course, if he was a turtle he would go really slow.
One hour later he was next to him. He tried to wake him up but he couldn't. Turtle was sad. All the other animals watched him. When they saw him lying on the floor they realised he was a rare animal. They all went to help. A couple of hours passed and the mysterious animal finally woke up!
All the animals were very happy. They were so excited, so they made him king. Turtle was very proud that his friend was the king of the whole forest!

Coco the friend pet
It was a normal autumn Sunday and as usual my family and I went for a picnic. Suddenly, I heard an unusual sound coming from behind a stone. My brother and I were really curious and although we were really afraid, we went to see what it was.
We noticed that it was a small scared puppy, all covered in mud. Immediately we went to show it to our parents and after some time they agreed that we can keep it. We named it Coco. As time went by, Coco grew into a very strange animal as he had the head of a dog, the body of a zebra, the legs were that of a white bear and his tail that of a squirrel.
On my 7th birthday, at night, I woke up as I saw a light and heard a voice calling me. It was Coco. Then without having even time to notice anything else I was on the back of Coco and flying high up in the sky.
From then on this would happen every week on weekends. I have never said anything to anyone as I was scared that they would take Coco away from me.

Story:
My Animal
My animal was born from two types of different animals. Its name is Pogogree Monkofins. He was born from a Woolly Spider Monkey and an Oedemera (Oedemera is an insect part of the beetle family) and his parents could breathe underwater! That is why he is part fish. But he does walk! Secretly he has legs, but they are invisible! Everyone thinks it is magic! He was born on 26th September 2014. He likes eating webs, fruits, leaves, and mice. He likes playing in the forests. He is in his favourite forest right now. He lives in a very secret location, no one knows where it is! It is surrounded by forests and jungles. Pogogree’s favourite thing is playing with all his other weird friends. He might look very weird, but he is very nice, just like all of us! I really hope you and my animal friend could get along when you meet! After all he is very nice, even if he is a really weird pet!
