1 to 1 Literacy and Dyslexia Intervention Lessons:

Memory plays such an important role in literacy learning, especially for learners with dyslexia. 💡 In our literacy lessons, we use fun memory-based activities like putting letters in the correct order, repeating patterns of letters verbally, and copying letter patterns in writing. These games can also be adapted using words, colours, shapes, and more! They help strengthen sequencing, recall, and attention skills in an engaging and supportive way.

In the activity shown in these photos, a year 1 student was shown a pattern of letters, and together we practised simple strategies to help him remember the letters in the correct order. Then, the letters were mixed up and he had to put them back in the right sequence to match the original pattern. Finally, the letters were hidden, and he was asked to say the pattern aloud from memory.

We started with 3-letter patterns and then built up to 4 letters as his confidence grew. Maybe he'll manage to remember 5 letters in his next lesson!

Each lesson builds on the last, helping to strengthen memory, sequencing, and early literacy skills in a structured and supportive way.
