Xjenza Malta Today its remit has developed and expanded to include the
1. Responsibility for the National Research and Innovation Strategy 2020 and related Action Plan.

Xjenza Malta (Science Malta) is the Malta Government Agency acting as the National R&D and Space funding agency, policy development and implementation body, in the area of Research, Innovation and Space. The Malta Council for Science & Technology acting for and on behalf of the Foundation for Science and Technology, is a public body established by central government in 1995 with the mandate of adv

ising government on science and technology policy. Responsibility for Policy recommendations in the area of science and technology as well as representation of the Government of Malta in EU fora such as: ERAC, ESFRI, JRC, DG working parties, EIT, SFIC, COST, ERAC, MoCo, SGHRM and the High Level Space Working Party.
3. The management and administration of the National and EU Research and Innovation Funding Programmes.
4. The setting up of the first National Interactive Science Centre, science communication and science popularisation. The Council is also responsible for supporting entities, being academic institutions or enterprises to join foreign consortia to undertake large-scale multi-national research activities. Typically, such projects would have public-private partnerships set up at a European level to address strategic areas where research and innovation are essential to European competitiveness. The Council also enters into Bilateral Agreements with other countries

A kick-off meeting, organised by Xjenza Malta, marked the launch of five new research and innovation (R&I) projects that foster greater collaboration between Malta-based researchers and partners in Türkiye. The projects, awarded funding under the fifth Xjenza Malta–TÜBİTAK Joint Call for R&I Proposals (2025), cover a range of research areas, including aviation, health, water management, and farming systems.

🇲🇹 Is-Senior Director ta’ Esplora, is-Sa Mary Ann Cauchi, kienet preżenti llum waqt il-konferenza stampa li fiha tħabbret il-15-il edizzjoni ta’ Science in the City 2026.

Matul il-konferenza, is-Sa Cauchi tkellmet dwar l-involviment ta’ Xjenza Malta u ċ-Ċentru Interattiv tax-Xjenza Esplora f’Science in the City, kif ukoll dwar il-kontribut tagħhom biex jgħinu fit-twettiq u s-suċċess ta’ din iċ-ċelebrazzjoni annwali tax-xjenza, ir-riċerka u l-innovazzjoni.

L-edizzjoni ta’ din is-sena se ssir fil-25 u s-26 ta’ Settembru fi Pjazza Tritoni, il-Belt Valletta, u fis-6 u s-7 ta’ Novembru fis-Sala San Duminku.

🇬🇧 Esplora Senior Director, Ms Mary Ann Cauchi, was present today at the press conference announcing the 15th edition of Science in the City 2026.

During the conference, Ms Cauchi spoke about the involvement of Xjenza Malta and Esplora Interactive Science Centre in Science in the City, as well as their contribution towards supporting the delivery and success of this annual celebration of science, research and innovation.

This year’s edition will take place on 25 and 26 September at Triton Square, Valletta, and on 6 and 7 November at St Dominic Hall.

Congratulations to the 12 Maltese researchers and early-stage start-ups selected for the FUSION Go To Market – Xjenza Malta EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology Jumpstarter programme.

Running from July to December 2026, the programme provides training, mentorship and business support to help participants validate their ideas and accelerate their journey to market. It will conclude with an Award Ceremony, where the top three entrepreneurs will receive prizes of up to €10,000.

Xjenza Malta is contributing over €50,000 towards this initiative through travel grants and award prizes.

Xjenza Malta is proud to celebrate Maria Aquilina, a young Maltese researcher at CERN, as Malta prepares to initiate the expression of interest towards official Associate Membership of CERN. This milestone positions Malta as a contributor to global innovation and scientific progress.
