Not hearing your own masterpiece and the sound of a standing ovation must be heartbreaking

On May 7, 1824, a man locked in total silence gave the world its greatest anthem to joy. After the premiere of his Ninth Symphony, the deaf composer couldn't hear the thunderous applause behind him. A soloist had to physically turn him around to see the honor he had earned.
