St Philip Neri, whose feast day is celebrated on 26 May, reminds educators that joy, patience, and kindness can touch hearts more deeply than fear or pressure. Known as the “Apostle of Joy,” he saw every young person as precious and encouraged them to grow through love, listening, and encouragement.

This morning, the SDS team had the pleasure of meeting with Jorge Burgueño López, Professor of Education at Universidad Pontificia Comillas (Madrid, Spain).

It was a meaningful exchange where we shared our SDS work, ongoing collaborations, and the programmes we offer to students and families, including CoPE sessions for educators. We also highlighted the support we provide to Religious Counsellors in their important role within state schools.

We reflected on the value and impact of prayer spaces in schools and how they support children's spiritual growth.

Grateful to Prof. Adrian Gellel for organising this enriching meeting and for creating opportunities to connect, share, and grow together.

An encouraging moment at SNC, Ġuże' Ebejer, Dingli Primary School

On Monday and Tuesday, 4th & 5th May, the SDS team animated reflective storytelling sessions leading to a prayer activity for Early Years and Primary classes. During our time at the school, we also met the Religious Counsellor Fr David Farrugia, who shared insights into his pastoral work supporting the children’s spiritual growth.

How can Saint Catherine of Siena inspire educators in the classroom today?

Her example shows the power of listening deeply, speaking with wisdom, and encouraging others to grow in confidence and purpose, reminding us that every lesson can also be an invitation to live with courage and compassion.

Celebrating the feast of St George today can inspire educators to nurture courage, perseverance, and a sense of purpose in their classrooms. Just as St George faced challenges with bravery and faith, teachers can encourage students to stand up for what is right, overcome difficulties, and believe in their own inner strength.

Moments of reflection, storytelling, and creative activities linked to his example can help children connect values with real-life actions, shaping both character and community.

Today we celebrate Earth Day 🌍

The world around us is not just a place we live in; it is a gift we are invited to care for. Every tree, every drop of water, every breeze carries a quiet reminder that creation is alive with beauty, purpose, and love.

Earth Day is more than awareness; it is a gentle call to responsibility. A call to notice more, to waste less, to protect what has been entrusted to us. Even the smallest acts—planting a seed, picking up litter, choosing kindness toward the environment—become prayers in action.
