Imma mhux kull tellieqa hija kontra l-arloġġ.

F’ILMA, kull karattru għandu t-tellieqa tiegħu. Kontra l-aspettattivi, il-pressjoni, il-memorji u passat li ma jridx jibqa’ midfun. Waqt li xi wħud qed jiġru wara s-suċċess, oħrajn qed jippruvaw sempliċement isibu t-triq ’il quddiem.

⏱️ Pause. Prepare. There's a race ahead. Every second counts.

But not every race is against the clock.

In ILMA, each character is running a race of their own. Against expectations, pressure, memories and a past that refuses to stay buried. And while some are racing towards success, others are simply trying to find their way forward.

Żero, wieħed, wieħed, tnejn, tlieta, ħamsa, tmienja, tlettax… 🔢🌊

Għal Ethan, in-numri minn dejjem kienu jikkalmawh. Is-sekwenza ta’ Fibonacci, fejn kull numru huwa s-somma taż-żewġ numri ta’ qablu, tagħtih sens ta’ ordni, prevedibbiltà u kontroll. Meta kien għawwiem kompetittiv, Ethan kien jirrepeti din is-sekwenza f’moħħu biex iwarrab l-ansjetà u l-kaos ta’ madwaru.

Ħmistax-il sena wara li waqaf mill-għawm, in-numri jerġgħu jibdew ifeġġu f’moħħu. Iżda din id-darba, magħhom iġibu memorji ta’ passat li kien jaħseb li ħalla warajh.

Zero, one, one, two, three, five, eight, thirteen… 🔢🌊

For Ethan, numbers would always calm him down. The Fibonacci sequence, where each number is the sum of the two preceding it, gives him a sense of order, predictability and control. As a competitive swimmer, Ethan would repeat this sequence in his head to keep anxiety and the chaos around him at bay.

Fifteen years after giving up swimming, the numbers begin to resurface in his mind. But this time, they bring with them memories of a past he thought he had left behind.

Studio 18 Spotlight ✨ Four in one show!

Il-Kelma li Ma Tgħidx opens tonight (waaaa!), and it’s full of familiar faces.
magri came through our Creative Lab, and she’s now the one keeping the whole production running as Production Manager. and .frisk are Creative Lab alumni too, and both are on stage. Joining them is , one of the very first Studio 18 people and our Sustainability Lead, proving yet again that he’s on the other side of the curtain more often than you’d guess 👀

Seeing people who started out in our rooms turn up across a production like this never gets old. Go and support them!! ❤️

Bħal Ethan, Cara kibret toħlom b’futur fl-għawm kompetittiv. Kellhom l-istess ambizzjonijiet u kienu parti minn dinja fejn kull għawma kienet tellieqa kontra l-arloġġ.

Iżda filwaqt li Ethan kien iffukat fuq ir-rebħ, Cara kienet għaddejja minn esperjenza li kellha tbiddlilha ħajjitha u r-relazzjoni tagħha mal-isport għal dejjem. Ħmistax-il sena wara, laqgħa b’kumbinazzjoni terġa’ tlaqqagħhom, u ġġiegħel lil Ethan jaffaċċja memorji li kien ilu snin jipprova jinsa.

Like Ethan, Cara grew up dreaming of a future in competitive swimming. They shared the same ambitions and were part of a world where every swim was a race against the clock. But while Ethan was focused on winning, Cara was going through an experience that would change her life and her relationship with the sport forever.

Fifteen years later, a chance encounter brings them together again, forcing Ethan to confront memories he had spent years trying to forget.

Ethan and Cara both had promising futures in competitive swimming. But somewhere along the way, they left the pool behind.

The race isn’t against the other swimmers. It’s against the clock! ⏱️

For Ethan’s coach, discipline comes before everything else. Training is gruelling, expectations are sky-high, and exhaustion is never an excuse to throw in the towel.
In his eyes, becoming a champion demands dedication and sacrifice. Where does one draw the line between discipline and pressure that could leave a lasting mark on a young athlete?

Ever wanted to try swimming but never had the chance?

Our friends at Għum u Għin m’Emma Għum u Għin m’Emma are hosting an open swimming session, and everyone is welcome. Maybe you’ve never dipped a toe in. Maybe you’re building confidence. Maybe you just want to get back in the water. There’s a place for you either way.

Għum u Għin exists to make swimming accessible to everyone, especially people who haven’t had the means or opportunity to learn. Their sessions focus on technique and are tailored to each swimmer, in 1-to-1 and group settings.

Over the past few months, Emma has been training the cast of ILMA in the water. She’s helped us tell this story with the care and honesty it deserves, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
