MVPA Alumni Den Ilson Zammit ✨

Standing backstage in Malta and handing my portrait to Katy Perry after her Isle of MTV performance was a surreal, full-circle moment. It felt as though the 10-year-old version of me had finally seen a lifelong dream come to life.

Watching her sign my artwork and hearing her say, “You’re amazing” followed by “Keep going,” was a moment of validation for every hour I have dedicated to my craft.

This unforgettable milestone didn’t happen by chance. It was the result of years of hard work, determination, and perseverance, with its foundations built during my time at the Malta Visual and Performing Arts School (MVPA) from 2018 to 2023.

MVPA gave me more than technical skills. It nurtured my creativity, challenged me to grow, and instilled the discipline and resilience that continue to shape me as an artist today. It was there that I learned to transform childhood inspiration into artistic purpose and gained the confidence to share my work with the world.

Meeting my idol reminded me that dreams are achieved one step at a time. More importantly, it proved that every challenge, every sacrifice, and every moment of self-belief along this journey has been worth it.

After graduating from MVPA, I pursued my dream of studying dance abroad by moving to Copenhagen, where I trained full-time at the International Dance Academy while completing my Maltese and English A Levels. During this time, I studied a wide range of dance styles, including ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, Latin, acro, tap, and choreography.

I then successfully auditioned for the Institute of the Arts Barcelona, where I have completed my first year of a BA (Hons) in Commercial Dance. The course has allowed me to further develop my performance skills while nurturing my passion for choreography through creative projects, workshops, and collaborations with internationally renowned choreographers.

Throughout my first year, I performed at the historic Palau de Maricel in Sitges, took part in numerous showcases, and was honoured to reach the finals of Brillanti Dance. Balancing intensive dance training, living independently abroad from the age of 16, and completing my A Levels taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of education.

I am incredibly grateful to MVPA and my teachers for inspiring me to strive for both academic and artistic excellence. Their guidance laid the foundation for my achievements, and I look forward to continuing my journey with passion and determination throughout the remainder of my degree.

MVPA Alumni ✨ Chloe H.A. | 15 🩰✨️

At the end of Year 9, I left MVPA to join the dance course at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts on a Malta Arts Scholarship as a full-boarding student in England. Since then I’ve performed in performances and even filmed for a TV documentary about Tring Park.

My time at MVPA were some of the best years of my life thanks to the dedication of all the teachers, academic and art form. I’m very grateful to have kept in touch with the teachers and they always welcome me back with open arms everytime I come home in the holidays.

MVPA provided me with so many different performance opportunties from Open Days at Auberge d’Aragon to the infamous flash mobs in Valletta which defietly boosted my confidence. During my audition period, the school supported me every step of the way and helped made my transition into my current school so much smoother. It will always be like a second home 💕💫

MVPA alumni Marianna Micallef ✨

Since graduating from MVPA, I moved to the UK to train at the prestigious Bird Conservatoire, where I am about to graduate with a diploma in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre. I am incredibly grateful to have secured professional agent representation straight out of college, and my career is already underway—from performing internationally in Monte Carlo for a major global brand, to filming for the ISTD Modern syllabus and performing at the National Maritime Museum in London. I’ve also had the privilege of working with the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT), playing Louise in Carousel and recently being cast in West Side Story at the Birmingham Hippodrome.

Alongside performing, I have a huge passion for creating; I was recently chosen by Bird Conservatoire to choreograph a number for a second-year performance, which I am actively working on at the moment.

Looking back at my secondary school days at MVPA, balancing my academic studies with this level of training needed to audition for College, required an immense amount of dedication. For three years, I flew to the UK every Friday and back every Sunday. I am endlessly grateful to teachers like Ms. Althea and the MVPA school board for understanding my ambition during my time there and allowing me the flexibility to chase my dreams. Those five years at MVPA taught me the invaluable lesson of personal focus—to look past the noise, stay grounded, and let my dedication speak for itself.

Today, alongside my creative work, I am also a qualified dance teacher and choreographer working with Y Don't U Malta, to give back to the community. My advice to current MVPA students is simple: never let anybody tell you that you can't do it. The Arts are a beautiful, fulfilling career choice. Always do what genuinely makes you happy, trust in your talent, put the work in, and chart your own course!

MVPA alumni ✨

After graduating from MVPA, I moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 16 to continue my professional dance training at KS Dance.

I am currently completing my third year of training and will begin my fourth and final year this September.

During my time at KS Dance, I have had the opportunity to develop both technically and artistically through vocational training and performance experience.

This year, I was honoured to perform two principal roles in the school’s annual production, which has been one of the highlights of my training so far.

Alongside my vocational studies, I have also successfully completed my Trinity Diploma and continue to work towards a professional career in dance.

None of this would have been possible without the support, guidance, and encouragement of my teachers at MVPA. They taught me so much—not only about dance, but also about discipline, resilience, professionalism, and confidence. The knowledge and values they instilled in me continue to shape me as both a dancer and a person, and they are a big part of the reason I am where I am today.

I will always be grateful for everything they have done for me.
