Bubble Painting.Doesn't this look fun for a rainy wet morning?
Bubble Painting
Materials:
Newspaper or other protective tablecloth
Liquid dishwashing detergent
Shallow dish
Poster, tempera or powder paint
Straws (do not suck!)
Drawing paper or other paper
Directions
Cover the child's work surface with newspaper.
Pour a quarter cup liquid dishwashing detergent into a shallow dish. If you use powdered tempera paint, mix a small amount of water with the paint.
Add the paint mixture or liquid tempera to the dishwashing liquid until the color is intense.
Place one end of a straw into the mixture, and blow until the bubbles are almost billowing over the edge of the dish.
Gently place a piece of construction paper or other paper on top of the bubbles and hold it in place until several bubbles have popped.
Continue this process with different colors, blowing more bubbles as needed.
To make a unique greeting card, use a piece of construction paper folded in half.
When dry, your child can add drawings to the picture and sign her/his name.
Learning opportunities: Ask your child about circles, and shapes, Colours and mixing. Ask about blowing and sucking. Ask, what else do we use straws for? Washing up liquid for?
You can also try spray and splatter painting,
Blow painting and Squeezy bottle painting with similar equipment. Have fun and get messy!

Aw the last Playgroup of this year. Such fun!
That was such FUN! The party hats were a wild success, with some amazing creations taken home and some even more crazy ones left behind! The cupcake decoration was a spur of the moment decision (I hadn't had time to ice them, and had plenty of willing hands.) The addition of blue sugar, mini-marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles meant that immediate taste testing was necessary by the chefs!
Thanks to everyone who brought goodies, especially Rikki, Guzin and Ullli and to Ym for helping set up this morning.
The "Pin the tail on the Donkey' was too easy, but only because no-one wanted to be blindfolded! The "hallway 'ten pin bowling"' ended messily, but was enjoyed very energetically!
I'm so sad this was the last of the year- it has been brilliant. i hope everyone staying the winter will continue to stay in touch. See you all for Playgroup 2012!
HOW EXCITING! This week is our final Playgroup Mongolia of the year and it's our party! We will be playing some simple party games making our own party hats, and having lots of fun! There are prizes and goody bags to take home! I know many people are sad that Playgroup Mongolia has drawn to a close before the winter truly sets in but by now everyone has made good friends and has some great ideas for activities, crafts and games that are easy to do. I hope we will be back next year with fresh supplies, new ideas and even a new venue...possibly!
Thank you all so much for attending Playgroup this week!
There were 9 children, from 15 months to 4 years old, three of them are Mongolian, plus 2 others fluent in Mongolian. Our children this week came from Australia, Cambodia, Germany, Sweden and Korea!
We were fortunate to have Damdin come to play the морин хуур! The children sang Twinkle Twinkle along with him, and shook bells along with Jingle Bells. They danced and mimed horseriding, were delighted by the "neighing horse" and mesmerised by the throat singing. I think it was an (very) unusual audience for the young man. There are few children in the world that can claim to have eaten cheese sandwiches accompanied by a морин хуур player, so if you were there, you are very lucky! Pics to follow.
Hi, Everyone. I was reluctant to mention- or factor into the morning's fun- a possibility of a horse-head fiddle (морин хуур) demonstration, which was originally planned for this session. However, it is looking increasingly likely that we may have someone coming.
I hope we can explore high and low notes, fast and slow music and of course have a 'clap-along'/ singalong session, with additional musical accompaniment from the children! Its still in the planning stages, but I will keep you all posted!
( An additional cost for this week's Playgroup to cover the cost of this visitor will be necessary.)
Hi Everyone, I am organising a First Aid Day, (through SOS Medica) initially for parents, in English, to be followed by a Mongolian session for Mongolian speakers, in particular our Helpers. I think we would all feel more at ease knowing that we and those who care for our children had been refreshed in First Aid and I suggest that we run this annually, if successful. Please contact me to express an interst. The suggested dates are around 24/25 NOVEMBER 2011. Cost dependent on interest.
Another lovely morning with all our regulars and some faces we have not seen for a while very welcomed back! Our rain makers were beautiful efforts with lots of rice scattered everywhere, mostly by me! Our snowy pictures were a great success; I hope they won't be replicated too soon by nature. Its lovely to hear everyone still singing as they leave and many parents say that their children know many of the songs in English by heart now.
Hi everyone. If you get eggs in the plastic cartons, could you please save them for Playgroup Mongolia? they can be used for disposable paint trays. AND if you are lucky enough to get eggs in the old fashioned paper cartons EVEN better....there are all sorts of craft projects we can do with those!
